Job Description

Quantity Surveyor - 6 Months Contract



Job Purpose:



To provide comprehensive quantity surveying services for the feasibility study and planning phase of the 10,000-capacity beef feedlot and high-throughput abattoir. This includes accurate cost estimation, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial risk assessment for all civil, structural, and operational infrastructure components.

Key Responsibilities:



Develop detailed cost estimates for all project components, including site works, civil infrastructure, feedlot structures, abattoir buildings, and waste management systems. Provide a Bill of Quantities (BoQ) based on conceptual designs and layouts. Assist in the development of phased cost plans for the feedlot and abattoir infrastructure. Analyse construction methodologies and propose cost-efficient alternatives. Support procurement planning by providing input on materials, labour, and contractor cost benchmarks. Monitor financial risks and advise the project team on potential cost overruns and mitigation strategies. Prepare financial inputs for the overall feasibility report including capital expenditure (CAPEX), operational expenditure (OPEX), and long-term cost modelling. Contribute to the development of a detailed budget and financial projections for each phase of the project. Liaise with engineers, architects, and other professionals to ensure financial alignment with design intent. Participate in site visits and stakeholder meetings to gather cost-related data.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:



Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics. Minimum of

5 years' experience

in quantity surveying for

agricultural, industrial, or infrastructure development projects

, with preference for feedlot or abattoir-related work.

Registered with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP)

. Strong understanding of construction materials, market rates, labour cost trends, and industry standards in South Africa.

Key Skills and Competencies:



Expertise in cost planning, estimation, and financial reporting. Proficiency in QS software such as WinQS or Candy. Strong analytical, mathematical, and negotiation skills. Excellent communication skills for multidisciplinary collaboration. Knowledge of construction contracts (JBCC, FIDIC, NEC, etc.). Ability to work independently and under tight timelines.

Working Conditions:



Based in the Eastern Cape with periodic field visits to the project site in Ngqushwa. Collaboration with multiple technical and professional disciplines. Hybrid office and field-based responsibilities.
