PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The successful incumbent will play a pivotal role within project delivery and will be involved with the management of all quality assurance and control activities within all phases of the project life cycle: project definition, project planning, project execution and project closure.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERTISE:

• Relevant tertiary qualification
• South African Inspection and Welding Level 2 Diploma.
• Certified Quality Inspector (SAIW).
• International Inspection and Welding certification will be advantageous.

JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 10 yearsxe2x80x99 relevant experience in the pulp & paper, petroleum, water, sugar, energy, mining or related industries.
• 5 years minimum experience in multi discipline construction projects environment. Must have an understanding of projects elements which includes scope, time, quality, costs, human resources, communication and risk management.
• Must have an understanding of projects life cycles.
• Knowledge and experience in general quality management principles and terminologies:

• PQP (Project Quality Plan).
• QCP (Quality Control Plan) / ITP (Inspection and Test Plans).
• Quality management procedures.
• Quality management templates.
• Commissioning and hand-over data packs.

• Knowledge and experience in piping, tanks, pressure vessels and structural design codes.
• Developing and maintaining of quality assurance systems to meet required specifications.
• Must have a good understanding of the ASME pressure vessel and piping design codes.
• Knowledge of local conformity requirements when importing pressure equipment.
• Must have an understanding of the design process.
• Must have a reasonable understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. of South Africa.
• Must have a very good understanding of SANS 347 and 310.
• Ability to lead meetings.
• Ability to manage multi-disciplinary quality teams and resource loading.
• Proven understanding of how to incorporate technical standards and legal requirements within quality control plans.
• Good understanding of quality control and assurance best practices and standards.
• Understanding of applicable technical standards and legislative requirements.
• Good technical knowledge of fabrication and installation of general plant equipment:

• Structures.
• Pumps & Motors.
• Valves.
• Pressure vessels and tanks.
• Piping.
• Electrical and instrumentation installations.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREA:

• Actively managing the project quality team with the main goal of supplying the necessary quality assurance and control assistance to ensure successful Capex projects (for both Richards Bay and Merebank).
• Managing resource loading and prioritizing quality deliverables and activities within the project quality team.
• To manage the delivery of all quality assurance and control deliverables.
• Managing the identification of project / end-user requirements from a quality of view for all Capex projects.
• Tracking and reporting of all quality assurance and control deliverables on a monthly basis.
• Ensuring that the project quality team are familiar with all applicable processes and templates.
• Continuous improvement of the Mondi quality processes and templates.
• Review and approve quality documents such as quality control plans, project quality plans, method statements, welding procedures, welders qualifications and complete data pack activities.
• Ensure Code Compliance, compliance to Mondi standards and procedures, SANS 347 and the Pressure Equipment Regulations (and all other applicable local legislation) for the projects being executed.
• Manage inspections on materials, equipment, and construction / installation activities on site.
• Manage all witness tests and inspections.
• Ensuring the project quality team is actively involved with authorizing and accepting contractor acceptance at quality control completion.
• Ensuring the project quality team obtains all the relevant documentation and enforcing the correct implementation of the approved quality control plan and method statements.
• Issue non-conformances when required to maintain quality standards.
• Ensure that problems with processes and procedures are identified to ensure proper quality control.
• Ensuring the project quality team documents inspection outcomes by completing detailed inspection reports and performance records.
• Assist the construction managers and engineers with quality control concerns to improve product excellence.
• Resolve quality-related issues in a timely manner.
• Assist with document control and handover.
• Participate in various construction and tracking meetings with relevant quality input.
• Resource loading and forward planning for the project quality team.
• Accountable for all quality assurance and control deliverables.
• Ensuring that the latest and correct drawings are being used during fabrication and on site construction.
• Ensuring that all relevant quality documentation is reviewed and approved by the applicable stakeholders.
• Management and coordination of work conducted by external quality consultants.
• Ensuring that relevant technical standards are applied.
• Provision of leadership or assistance to the project quality team.
• Where required, perform the role of xe2x80x98Lead Quality Controllerxe2x80x99 for appropriate projects and assign quality resources in line with the scope of work.
• Conducting performance reviews for staff personnel.
• Assessing competence within the project quality team.
• Ensure control and management of key quality deliverables i.e. PQPs.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Carry out quality audits ensuring full compliance with quality procedures.
• Actively managing the training and development plan for the Mondi quality team
