QUALIFIED DIESEL TRUCK MECHANIC

Location: Feedlot Bronkhorstspruit

Position

The main responsibility will be the diagnosing, adjusting, servicing and repairing of the Volvo truck fleet, tractors and plant equipment.

Reporting to:

Workshop manager

Responsibilities

(included but not limited to)

- Service and repair of all Volvo trucks, tractors and plant equipment

- Attending to all breakdowns and running repairs

- Report details of repairs and parts used to the workshop manager

- Reassemble equipment following repairs, testing and making adjustments if necessary

- Dismantle defective machines for repairs using hand tools

- Clean and lubricate parts

- Overhaul engines to specifications

- Servicing of tractors

- Wiring of electrical components

- Tyre changes on trucks, tractors and trailers

- General repair work on feedwagons

- Performs safety inspections on vehicles and equipment

- Identify and report the need for all repairs to management

- Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records

- It may be required from to perform other work for which you are either qualified or capable of doing within other areas of the company from time to time

- Must be capable and willing to work overtime when required.

- Must be available after hours to keep contact with all relevant parties, 7 days a week

- Must be capable to do weekend duty according to the weekend roster (every second weekend)

Required skills and knowledge

- Preferred requirement Grade 12 certificate

- Qualified red seal diesel mechanic

- Preferred: Volvo Fleet mechanic

- Tractor certification

- 3+ year proven experience as a mechanic

- English literacy (speaking, read and write)

- Valid driver's license

- Accuracy to be sure that all details are done

- Planning of own tasks, priorities, and goals without talking with the workshop manager

- Work in a stressful environment especially when attending to breakdowns
