Role description: Lead Project Engineer
Objective
As a Lead Project Engineer at the company, your objective is to play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of complex engineering projects. You will lead and guide interdisciplinary teams, apply your expertise in project planning and oversee the adherence to contractual and commercial requirements. Your role will encompass coordinating project schedules, maintaining the highest standards of quality, and fostering strong client relationships. Additionally, you will actively engage in the development of project-specific procedures, document management, and cross-discipline collaboration. Responsibilities
Project Management
Manage design teams and coordinate other disciplines involved on the project.
Develop a thorough understanding of a project's scope, contractual and commercial requirements and regularly review the status of work.
Develop project schedules and requirements and regularly engage in discussions with team members to ensure schedule adherence. Actively address delays and support in overcoming obstacles.
Ensure the project schedule incorporates internal and Client reviews appropriate for the project phase.
Understand project schedule milestones and ensure comprehension among team members. Monitor progress and initiate cross-discipline corrective actions when necessary.
Review document, requisition, and sub-contract indexes to ensure they are updated and available for issue as scheduled.
Serve as a liaison between the company and the Client's engineering representative, particularly regarding design and specification matters.
Inform the team of any changes to engineering design or specifications made by the client that may constitute the basis for a contract change. Provide information for estimating the cost and schedule impact of such changes.
Provide input to Project closure reports.
Maintain a document and drawing numbering system.
Day to day management of design resources and management with other stakeholders.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
Ensure that the procedures and work practices outlined in the Project Engineering Quality Plan and industry best practice are appropriately applied.
Develop project-specific procedures to enhance project performance.
Prepare appropriate procedures and standards in line with the Department Quality Plan and as required by the project's scope of work.
Understand the requirements for Design Reviews, participating as required by procedure and ensuring relevant groups satisfactorily close actions.
Chair and manage Model Reviews, ensuring that relevant groups prepare the model to meet quality standards in a timely manner. Ensure attendance of specified personnel for the review and allocate appropriate actions to the respective owners. Expedite the closure of actions by agreed-upon dates.
Documentation and Data Management
Procure and make available to the team all Client standards and practices as described in the Work Scope.
Prepare and periodically update the Document Distribution Matrices.
Develop and issue Engineering design criteria and scopes of work on a regular basis.
Actively use the Document Management System (DMS) to monitor progress with projects.
Coordinate the transfer of records to storage and disposal as needed. You will ensure teams and designers have the information they require.
Establish procedures for the handover of engineering deliverables to team members.
Engineering Design and Coordination
Progress the Engineering design through the issuance of design bases, design criteria, material flow diagrams, line lists, equipment lists, and other essential design documents.
Facilitate effective cross-discipline coordination and resolve any cross-discipline problems.
Be proficient in using and navigating through the 3D Model using the assigned software for review purposes.
Prepare multi-discipline requisitions with full input from relevant engineering disciplines, having first become familiar with terms and conditions of the contract and the strategy.
Co-ordinate discipline design development process.
Prepare deliverables including design and cost analyses, drawings, sketches, diagrams, lists, 3D models, bills of quantities, schedules, registers etc, in compliance with the BoD.
Check drawings / models and maintain quality of deliverables.
Interface with designers from other disciplines.
Ongoing Improvement Contributions
Provide guidance to junior team members.
Provide effective people management and leadership to maintain the team's capability, capacity, and growth, making recruitment decisions as per business requirements.
Strategically plan and execute training and development initiatives, both for personal growth and to ensure the team's competence aligns with the latest technological trends.
Qualifications and experience
The minimum academic qualification is an engineering degree and professional registration.
