Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

  • BCom Accounting Degree or equivalent (NQF 7)
  • 5 years experience in the Finance field, including project accounting
  • Knowledge of accounting systems (ERP) Appropriate experience in the financial management of contracts and projects
  • Experience in the higher education environment
  • Strong accounting and financial background
  • The ability to provide senior level leadership to project leaders
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of MS Excel (specifically, advanced formulas, pivot tables and charts)
Summary of Duties:
  • Prepare and maintain detail project budgets and long-term business plan.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly project forecast.
  • Update of monthly dashboard and management accounts (balance sheet, income statements and cash flow statements).
  • Project costing, labour recoveries, inventory and WIP justification.
  • Liaise with Programme Managers, Financial Managers & Directors internally and auditors externally.
  • Administer and operate project management system.
  • Request contractor progress invoices.
  • Check and load weekly contractor payments.
  • Perform general administration of projects.
  • Audit, pay and reconcile the disbursements, refunds and receipts of contracts and settlement agreement.
  • Perform the year-end closing activities and special projects, including the master chart of accounts documentation.
  • Review budgets, including staffing, work plans, and fee structures.
  • Prepare actual costs, working capital, and tax reports.
  • Monitor receivable income and supporting project managers with collections.
  • Issue invoices and purchase orders, as well as paying consultant, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bills.
  • Ensure a steady cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices in a timely manner.
  • Update contracts according to client requirements and reporting associated budget amendments.
  • Providing financial advice to project managers on the drafting of budgets, financial management and project proposals.
  • Monitor compliance with the financial policy and procedures.
  • Conduct expenditure analyses on identified projects and interventions as required.
  • Report to the Manager: Special Projects or other project managers as required.
  • Provide project managers with timely financial reports and budgets, as well as project forecasts.
  • Prepare various reports for the Cost Accountant.
  • Preparing pre-billing reports for project managers to review.
  • Conduct reporting on project accounting status and quarterly forecasts.
  • Assist business finance in quarterly forecast with regards to project costs.
  • Identify and prepare relevant information and data for reporting purposes.
  • Make assessments of and draw solutions from qualitative data. Make logical deductions and draw conclusions that can be motivated.
