Lead the science cluster in the SPFET department and the Faculty of Education in general,
conduct research and mentor others.
Contribute to the faculty goals in teaching, research, community engagement/administration, and Teaching Practice.
This post has been created for the purpose of raising the standard of scholarship in the field of Science Education in the Faculty. The purpose of the post is to provide academic leadership to build capacity by initiating relevant research projects, strengthening research capacity, providing mentorship to novice researchers (staff members) and supervising postgraduate students up to doctoral level. The appointee will contribute to the spectrum of academic functions including teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising students on teaching practice, curriculum development, academic administration and conducting research in the subject area of Science Education. The focus of this appointment is to strengthen postgraduate research capacity across the faculty therefore the incumbent will engage with researchers in all departments to seek opportunities for multidisciplinary projects. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience Minimum Requirements: Professor:
Doctoral degree in Chemistry Education or Science Education with specialization in Chemistry
Chemistry or Chemistry Education as a major subject at Bachelor's level
A relevant teaching qualification
At least ten (10) years' relevant experience in teaching in higher education of which three (3) years must be at Senior Lecturer level comprising of relevant academic management experience.
Recipient of research awards and grants
Demonstrable track record of publications in accredited and peer-reviewed journals over the last 5 years (nationally andinternationally)
Post-graduate students supervised to completion relevant to the Education field (preferably in the field SP FET)
Experience in supervision of students on teaching practice
NRF rated.
Adequate knowledge of South African CAPS requirements.
Experience as an external examiner/moderator at masters' and doctoral levels.
Experience in curriculum development
Knowledge of the HEQSF processes
Proven evidence of academic and research leadership qualities/high stature in the field nationally and/or internationally
Recommendations:
