Responsibilities:


Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the various sub-disciplines that constitute Political Science (Politics and/or International Relations). Supervise postgraduate essays, dissertations and theses. Conduct and publish research in international, accredited journals and reputable presses. Take on administrative and committee roles within the Department of Politics and International Relations, the Faculty of Humanities and the University of Johannesburg.

Minimum requirements




A completed doctoral degree in Political Science (Politics and/or International Relations), with consideration for cognate disciplines. 5 or more years' lecturing experience in the discipline of Political Science or cognate disciplines. Strong publication track record in reputable and accredited presses and journals. Strong commitment to good teaching and research. Sound communication skills in English. Experience in Postgraduate supervision, including at the doctoral level. Candidates from designated groups (Black South Africans and Women) are especially encouraged to apply

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:


Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Excellent teaching skills and good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues. Good planning and organizational skills. Experience in the integration of ICT in teaching and learning as well as electronic assessment techniques e.g. Blackboard. Capacity to administer large undergraduate modules. Ability to work well and collegially with others and within established processes. Punctuality. Knowledge of various subfields of Political Science.

Recommendations:


Able to teach large groups of students ( 150). Experience lecturing undergraduates. Experience in curriculum development. Familiarity with blended learning techniques. Experience in compiling study guides. Experience in media engagement and writing of opinion articles on matters relevant to your discipline. Previous administrative and leadership experience, an NRF rating, publication on decolonisation, scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), the 4IR, and the sustainable development goals (SDGs) through a political lens are added advantages
