Job Requirements
For appointment as a Full Professor:

  • A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Victimology, or Policing Studies.
  • A minimum of 10 years' teaching experience at a tertiary institution, or at least 7 years of professional experience in a relevant field.
  • A strong publication record with at least 15 scholarly outputs, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, or full book publications.
  • Proven track record of supervising at least four Master's or Doctoral students to completion.
  • Demonstrated involvement in community-based projects that contribute meaningfully to both the university and broader society.
  • Evidence of securing external research funding or generating third-stream income.
  • An NRF rating is highly desirable.
For appointment as an Associate Professor:
  • A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Victimology, or Policing Studies.
  • At least 10 years of teaching experience in higher education, or 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • A publication portfolio comprising a minimum of 10 accredited outputs, including journal articles, book chapters, or books.
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students, with at least four Master's or Doctoral completions.
  • Active participation in community engagement initiatives that benefit both the institution and external stakeholders.
  • An NRF rating will be considered an advantage.
For appointment as a Senior Lecturer:
  • A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Victimology, or Policing Studies.
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience at tertiary level, or 7 years of professional experience in the field.
  • A minimum of five accredited publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles or book contributions.
  • Evidence of meaningful community engagement that supports institutional and societal development.
Duties:
  • Deliver criminal justice modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Supervise and co-supervise Master's and Doctoral research students.
  • Contribute to the institution's research output by publishing in accredited academic outlets.
  • Engage actively in community outreach, fostering partnerships and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Participate in academic administration, departmental research activities, and serve on postgraduate committees.
