Job description
The Johannesburg Business School (JBS) has embraced the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and repositioned itself to equip current and future leaders to deal with the digital transformation resonating throughout the world. The digital revolution encompasses shifts in the mind-sets and paradigms and change management will be imperative as there is a blurring between the disciplines of leadership, engineering and the creative arts globally. JBS is therefore established as a digital business school situated within a globally competitive university ready to address societal developmental needs.

You are invited to become part of the JBS journey, focusing on enabling and empowering people who want to grow and transform their future in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Digital transformation is the integration of digital technology into all areas of business, fundamentally changing how you operate and deliver value to customers. A particular focus of the position is to examine the business implications of established and emerging digital technologies and practices in a super-diverse world.
The JBS wishes to appoint a Professor with experience in finance and/or other relevant fields as well as exposure to developing innovative solutions in the area of:
Accounting and Commerce:
Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic leadership.
  • Fulfil academic citizenship and leadership roles.
  • Teach and supervise postgraduate students.
  • Provide research leadership.
  • Develop international corporation.
  • Engage with industry and/or other sectors, and secure funding for research.
  • Remain current on digital transformation.
  • Engage the public sphere on his/her area of expertise.
  • Forge and maintain internal and extenal professional networks.
Minimum requirements
  • A Doctoral degree (NQF 10) in a relevant field.
  • A track record in international cooperation.
  • A track record in teaching at the Masters level.
  • An established list of completed supervision of Masters and Doctoral projects.
  • A track record of engaging with industry and in securing industry funding.
  • An outstanding current publishing record in the field of specification with a track record of publishing in high impact.
  • NRF rating or the ability of the candidate to meet the NRF rating requirements to apply within the next cycle
factor journals. * Deep understanding of South African and African business education.
  • Clear track record of high-level academic citizenry.
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
  • Good understanding of business school education and higher education more generally.
  • Ability to work with academic faculty and to play the role of mentor to more junior faculty.
  • Ability to relate to the student experience of studying towards a postgraduate qualification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage in innovative and novel problem solving.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills and the ability to adapt communication to a range of audiences.
  • Proven ability to work with international partners.
Recommendations:
  • Ten (10) years' experience in higher education.
  • An NRF Rating would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of higher education regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Commercial/corporate business experience.
