The Role

As the Production/Workshop Manager at Cape Boiler & Heater, you oversee all aspects of the fabrication and welding workshop, including daily operations, quality control, and personnel management. The role requires deep technical knowledge of steelwork, welding, and boiler (preferred) construction, along with strong leadership and project management abilities.

Key responsibilities

Production and operations

Oversee daily workshop activities to ensure efficient, safe, and productive operations.

Plan and organize production schedules, allocate tasks, and set deadlines based on project requirements.

Ensure that all manufacturing and fabrication processes run reliably and on schedule.

Analyze and optimize production processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize waste.

Manage the transport and receipt of materials, ensuring they match specifications and documentation.

Technical and quality control

Maintain a hands-on understanding of boiler maintenance, repair, and assembly.

Ensure all fabrication, welding, and installation work meets the highest quality and structural standards.

Conduct quality control inspections of fabricated parts and finished products.

Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications for the production team.

Possess extensive knowledge of various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, Arc) and fabrication methods.

Safety and compliance

Implement, monitor, and enforce strict health, safety, and environmental regulations within the workshop.

Direct and coordinate essential programs like worker safety and housekeeping.

Ensure all workshop assets and equipment comply with company standards and legal requirements.

Team management

Supervise, manage, and mentor a team of welders, boilermakers, and technicians.

Recruit, train, and develop staff to ensure they are equipped to meet production demands and quality standards.

Set performance standards, conduct reviews, and provide feedback to the team.

Administrative and financial management

Use workshop management software to track project progress and manage inventory.

Prepare regular reports for senior management on performance, productivity, and costs.

Equipment maintenance

Oversee the routine maintenance and repair of all workshop equipment, including welding machines, cutting equipment, and cranes.

Plan and approve maintenance schedules to ensure the mechanical reliability of all key assets.
