A well-established company in the Paarl area with operations across Africa, is looking for a Production Accountant with warehousing oversight responsibilities.
The Production Accountant will play a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity of our production operations by managing production costs, analysing variances, and supporting the overall efficiency and profitability of the production process.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting and Analysis
Maintain and oversee the cost accounting system, ensuring accurate allocation of costs to products, processes, and departments.
Analyse production costs, including raw materials, labour, and overheads, ensuring alignment with financial targets and budgets.
Monitor and report on cost variances, identifying key drivers and providing recommendations for cost savings.
Preparation of sales invoices
Inventory and Materials Management
Manage and oversee inventory accounting, ensuring accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods.
Reconcile inventory counts to accounting records, identifying, and resolving discrepancies.
Collaborate with procurement and production teams to monitor stock levels, control wastage, and optimise material usage.
Financial Reporting
Prepare detailed production cost reports, including direct and indirect costs, for management review on a regular basis.
Support the finance team in month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring the accurate recording of all production-related costs.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal financial controls related to production activities.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Assist in preparing production budgets and forecasts, including analysis of cost centres, production volumes, and expected costs.
Provide financial insights and forecasts to production managers, helping them make informed decisions about resource allocation and production planning.
Track and monitor actual production costs against budget, providing variance analysis and explanations.
Operational Support
Work closely with production managers to understand operational challenges and opportunities, providing financial insights for process improvements.
Support the development and financial assessment of new production initiatives and product launches.
Assist in capital expenditure (CAPEX) planning, ensuring alignment with production needs and financial targets.
Compliance and Internal Controls
Ensure adherence to South African tax regulations and other statutory requirements specific to the alcoholic drinks manufacturing sector.
Excise accounting
Maintain and implement robust internal controls over production processes, safeguarding assets and ensuring the integrity of financial data.
Liaise with external auditors, providing required information and supporting the audit process.
Qualifications/ Person Specification
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cost or management accounting, preferably within the manufacturing or FMCG industry.
Experience in the alcoholic drinks or beverage industry is highly advantageous.
Familiarity with costing systems and inventory management in a manufacturing environment.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Professional accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, SAIPA, or CA(SA)) preferred
Proficient in ERP systems (preferably SYSPRO) and MS Office
Experience in month end close process
Flexible approach with the ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
Good communication skills in English and Afrikaans
Capability to work in a multi-national environment
