Central to the mining operations, the Procurement Officer assumes a pivotal role in orchestrating the procurement process. This role hinges on the adept management of procurement strategies, supplier interactions, and adherence to industry regulations.

The role's scope covers procurement process management, Inventory, vendor engagement, and contract discussions, all geared towards optimizing costs, quality, and delivery schedules.
Role Context
Sourcing and Supplier Management
Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conducting market research and supplier assessments.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating favourable terms, and ensuring adherence to agreements.
Continuously monitor supplier performance, quality, and delivery schedules.
Procurement Process
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand procurement needs and specifications.
Manage end-to-end procurement process, including requisition, sourcing, bidding, negotiation, purchase order creation, and contract management.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and specifications, ensuring alignment with company goals and budget constraints.
Contract Management
Draft, review, and finalize procurement contracts, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
Monitor contract terms and conditions, tracking deliverables, and resolving any contractual disputes.
Cost Management
Monitor and manage procurement budgets, analyse spending patterns, and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high-quality standards.
Mitigate and reduce Maverick Spend.
Inventory Management
Collaborate with warehouse and inventory teams to ensure efficient stock levels and minimize excess inventory.
Monitor inventory turnover and recommend adjustments to procurement strategies.
Collaborate with relevant departments to maintain optimal inventory levels while minimizing excess stock.
Risk Management
Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions.
Stay updated on industry regulations and trends affecting procurement and supply chain activities.
Monitor supplier performance to ensure consistent quality and adherence to agreements.
Stay informed about changes in regulations and industry standards that might impact procurement operations.
Ethics and Compliance
Ensure procurement activities adhere to ethical and compliance standards, company policy and procedures including the MPRDA, Mining Charter 2018 and BEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) and all Law requirements in South Africa.
Ensure that actions and decisions taken do not bring the company into disrepute
Purchase Order Processing
Collect and analyse procurement data to identify areas for process improvement and cost savings.
Generate regular reports on procurement metrics and key performance indicators.
Proficient in MS suite, Excel, Words etc.
Purchase Order Processing
Generate and process purchase orders for required goods and services.
Expediate, Monitor and track order status to ensure timely execution of on-time delivery in full (OTIF).
Purchase Order Processing
Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, contracts, and supplier information.
Generate regular reports on procurement activities, including cost analysis, savings, and supplier performance.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate).
Charted Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
Job specific experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience, preferably in the Mining or Heavy Industry environment
