The Process Engineer will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing process systems and equipment at our facility.

What do we expect from you as a Process Engineer?
BTech; BEng or BSc Eng. in Chemical Engineering
Experience of at least 5 to 10 years with demonstrable skills in chemical engineering process flow, mechanical equipment, piping, fuels and chemical storage and handling, with an understanding of how to improve integrity and reliability on assets
Preferable experience in petrochemical environment
Understanding of OHSA, API, ASME and SANS regulations and standards around process and mechanical equipment and piping

What does your day look like?
Will work cross-functionally to ensure the reliability, safety, and compliance of our storage infrastructure. By ensuring that the continuous improvement process is applied and followed to ensure asset availability, the Process engineer shall assist Vopak to ensure that it delivers a reliable and quality service to its customers.
Required to ensure that fundamental process requirements related fuels and chemicals are maintained, implemented (and improved where necessary) with a future focus on process optimization, growth opportunities and improved practices around environmental sustainability.
Your core responsibilities are:
1. Process Optimization:
Ensure continuous improvement and improved processes and equipment efficiencies within the Vopak facilities (Durban and Lesedi) by identifying problems through root cause analysis and providing solutions thereto.
Apply chemical engineering principles to assist with improving on current terminal activities and guiding terminal staff on how to achieve improved throughput and service to customers
Monitor and analyze data trends of operational parameters to form a basis for future improvements and ensure results can be presented in a clear, understandable format and justified to different audiences
Monitor alarm management data to identify optimization opportunities and reduce the number of alarms per month
Develop strategies for future projects and growth opportunities which align with safety, legislative compliance, data analytics and long-term sustainability
2. Maintain fundamental process engineering documentation
Create/ensure that the operational parameter database is maintained together with the document controller
Ensure that existing site drawings (P&IDs, isometrics etc.) are kept updated and relevant. Where gaps are present: initiate, review and ensure that changes are implemented and uploaded to the document control system
Create strategic plans on maintaining fundamental process information and manage governance aspects to ensure that the most relevant and up to date evidence is available for auditing purposes. Ensure that gaps are closed and changes are tracked to ensure good governance of process information
Be familiar with Vopak standards and South African legislative requirements to ensure that any changes or modifications needed are addressed to the Terminal manager
The Process engineer shall bring knowledge of engineering standards, SHEQ and legal requirements in order to ensure that Vopak maintenance activities, equipment installation and operation are carried out in line with these specifications. Performing an advisory role to the maintenance and operations team, advising on the adherence to standards
Become familiar with the terminal's design and operating parameters across different modalities and systems to advise cross functional teams during management of change reviews and HAZOPs
Analyzing audit, inspection and HAZOP reports to identify corrective actions in conjunction with business owners to close findings
Educate and transfer knowledge to site operators on good utilization of equipment
Develop recommendations and action plans in line with the customer strategy
3. Projects
Assist and develop a clear project definition and thereafter project scope incorporating information from all departments and disciplines and clarifying cost estimates, project risks and complexities
Assist the Engineering Manager/Project Portfolio Manager with the delivery of project scope requirements relating to the process engineering systems and/or maintainability of equipment and design for maintenance
Analyze project implementation regarding cost, time and impact on machinery and to ensure work is done in the most cost-effective way with minimal machine downtime and according to standards (Vopak Global, ISO, ASME, API, SHEQ and good workmanship)
Ensure accurate local and Vopak specifications are provided on a project and work is carried out according to specifications
Participate and contribute to design reviews, HAZOPs, MOC's and risk assessments ahead of site work for those 3YMP projects already in progress.
Monitor installation and commissioning to ensure that equipment operates according to requirements after installation or repair
Identify potential threats or risks to project progress and success. Proactively implement corrective action/give feasible solutions to assist the project team
4. Innovation
Be a visionary, whilst considering how to make the present work seamlessly. Identify gaps broadly and cross functionally which could further the Vopak SA vision to be number 1 in "Port and at all Strategic Locations"
Initiate improvement ideas together with supportive research on different alternatives to further develop and possibly implement and collaborate to bring initiatives into a presentable business case
