Our client is is an award-winning specialist consulting firm that provides investment implementation advice to institutional investors around the globe. Founded in 1999, the London-headquartered firm has conducted engagements for more than 500 clients in over 45 countries and has 11 offices globally. Services include manager search and selection, strategic asset allocation, portfolio design, fee analysis, performance monitoring, risk analytics and other portfolio solutions. With customised processes tailored to each individual client, the firm seeks to empower investors with the resources and information to take key decisions. The team is drawn from portfolio management, research, consultancy and academia, combining deep sector-specific expertise with global perspective.
They now seek private markets fee & performance associates/ VP's to join their team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast growing business line early in its evolution, and to be part of a new team to be set up in South Africa. You will get exposure to a wide range of private-market strategies and fund structures. You will have direct involvement with Global LP fee verification and forensic analysis and be part of building new analytical tools and methodologies to support the business and the large institutional clients.
The role is based in Cape Town / Johannesburg and will initially be fully remote, with occasional team meeting at an office location. As the company does not currently have an established presence in the country the office location has not yet been established. The role is expected to transition to a hybrid working policy, requiring a minimum office attendance of 3 days per week in the office once it is established. The hybrid work policy is reviewed from time to time and is subject to change.
JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be required to support a high-volume, high-precision review of management fees, performance fees (carried interest), and fund-level costs across private equity, private debt, real estate and infrastructure funds.
  • You will be required to sit at the intersection of legal documentation, fund economics and data-driven recalculation;
  • You will be required to work LP-side, independently recalculating fees charged by GPs and reconciling them against contractual terms;
  • You will be required to review and interpret LPA / PPM clauses relating to:
  • Management fees (bases, timing, prorata, caps, transitions);
  • Performance fees (hurdle, catch-up, carried interest, clawback);
  • You will be required to translate legal fee terms into operational calculation logic;
  • You will be required to recalculate management fees and performance fees using Excel or other software package;
  • You will be required to reconcile GP-charged amounts against independently calculated figures;
  • You will be required to analyse fund-level cash flows, capital accounts, NAV's and audited financial statements;
  • You will be required to draft concise, data-focused GP information requests;
  • You will be required to identify inconsistencies, ambiguities, or overcharges and document findings clearly;
  • You will be required to contribute to the development of reusable calculation templates and analytical tools.
CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  • You have strong understanding of private-market fund economics (commitments, invested capital, NAV, hurdle rates, catch-up, carried interest);
  • You have the ability to read and interpret legal fund documentation;
  • You have professional fluency in English;
  • You have precision, judgment and technical depth genuinely matter;
  • You have a keen eye for detail and rigorous;
  • You are comfortable managing multiple funds in parallel under time pressure;
  • You are pragmatic and analytical, focused on accuracy and reconciliation;
  • You are curious and critical, with the confidence to challenge GP calculations;
  • You are able to operate autonomously once methodology is understood.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • You have a minimum of 3 - 6 years' current, relevant experience with outstanding references;
B.Com ( accounting ); B. Bus Sc qualification;
  • Fund accounting or fund administration (private equity, private debt, real estate infrastructure);
  • Audit of investment funds (Big 4 or similar), with exposure to private-market vehicles;
  • LP operations, fund-of-funds, or investment consulting roles involving fee analysis or fund level reconciliation;
  • You have strong accounting background -
  • Experience in fund accounting, fund administration, or audit of private-market funds;
  • Solid understanding of capital accounts, NAV mechanics, cash-flow waterfalls, accrual vs cash concepts and fee impact on fund reporting;
  • Comfort working with audited financial statements and reconciliation processes;
  • You have basic Python programming knowledge; not essential but a distinct advantage
  • You have ( Ideally ) experience with fund accounting platforms e.g. eFront, Investran, Allvue and Qashqade;
  • You have advanced Excel skills (cash-flow modelling, IRR, reconciliation).
