REQUIREMENTS: o BTech or equivalent qualification in an appropriate technical field (NQF Level 7). o Excellent hands-on technical skills with machines and power tools. o At least 7 years of related experience, 3 years of which should be in a supervisory position. o Good interpersonal skills, good verbal and written communication skills, good planning and organizing skills, and good computer skills. ADVANTAGE: o ECSA Professional or Candidate Engineering Technologist registration. DUTIES: The successful applicant will report to the Head of School (or her/his designate) and will be responsible for: o leading a cohesive team comprising Senior Technicians and Technical Assistants. o strategic planning in relation to the professional development needs of technical staff and the operation of laboratory facilities. o overseeing and supporting teaching, learning and research activities in all laboratories, on- and off-campus. o full compliance of the Hillman Building and all laboratory facilities to Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHS&E) protocols. o the day-to-day teaching, learning and research activities in one of the School's laboratories (i.e. hydraulics / environmental / materials / structures / geotechnical / transportation). o overseeing the manufacture or procurement and maintenance of laboratory equipment. o additional duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of School. 'Laboratories' refers to (but is not limited to) all spaces in and around the Hillman Building designated for teaching, learning and research activities.
