Primary Plant Design Engineer

Job Description
- Develop and review designs for primary plant systems (HV equipment, busbars, disconnectors, earthing, etc.) for substations.
- Prepare layout drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with IEC/SANS standards, utility specifications, and project requirements.
- Collaborate with civil, secondary, and protection engineers to integrate designs.
- Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and design validations.
- Support project managers with technical input during tendering and project execution.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and drafters.
- Liaise with clients, utilities, and suppliers to ensure design intent is achieved.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in substation primary plant design (HV/MV).
- Strong knowledge of HV equipment and substation layout design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD / MicroStation (or similar design tools).
- Familiarity with local utility standards and IEC/SANS regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration skills.
- ECSA registration (Pr.Eng / Pr.Tech Eng) or eligibility is advantageous.
