Job Description

Job Purpose




The Department of the Premier, Western Cape Government has opportunities for suitably qualified and competent individuals to be appointed as presiding officers as part of a panel to preside over disciplinary hearings and/or incapacity hearings. The appointees will be independent of all Departmental operations and will be contracted and remunerated on an ad-hoc basis for a period of 12 months. It may be required of the presiding officer to serve in the Cape Town Metropole as well as rural areas of the Western Cape.

Minimum Requirements




Appropriate recognised qualification; A minimum of 3 years working experience as a presiding officer in disciplinary hearings and/or incapacity hearings and/or arbitrator (CCMA and Bargaining Councils). A valid code B (or higher) driving licence.

Recommendation




Any additional recognised labour relations training courses.

Key Performance Areas




Preside over complex and serious misconduct hearings and incapacity hearings in accordance with the relevant prescripts; Safeguard the rights of the respective parties; Objective and fair findings/sanctions; Detailed report writing within the prescribed timeframes.

Competencies




Extensive knowledge of labour relations with special focus on disciplinary matters and incapacity hearings; Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape Province; Report writing skills.

Remuneration




A rate of R 375.00 per hour and a fee of R 1500 per final report submitted in terms of disciplinary hearings. Travel costs will be re-imbursed at a rate determined by government transport tariffs.
