Power Platform Technical Lead

Location

: South Africa; Cape Town (Remote)

Reporting To

: Solutions Architect, Nano Fibre UK

Employment Type

: Full-time

Company Overview

Nano IS Western Cape (Pty) Ltd builds and supports Microsoft Power Platform solutions for Nano Fibre UK's fibre-to-the-home rollout. Our platform spans Power Apps, Dataverse, Power Automate, Power Pages, Power BI, and Azure DevOps--used daily by our field engineers, customer support teams, finance, health & safety, and logistics.

We believe in

hands-on leadership

: our Technical Lead remains deeply involved in building, coding, configuring, and maintaining real production systems--while also setting technical standards, guiding architecture, and mentoring the team. You'll help shape our technical direction while contributing directly to the solutions we deliver.

Role Overview

As Technical Lead, you'll be the

most senior hands-on engineer

on the team. You'll lead by example--

writing code, designing schemas, debugging issues, configuring environments

, and building flows--while mentoring engineers and reviewing their work. You'll work alongside a Technical Project Manager/Coordinator who owns backlog, planning, and stakeholder alignment, while you focus on execution, quality, and technical leadership.

This is a

delivery-focused technical role

: no people management, but strong team influence and a visible contribution to every major initiative.

Key Responsibilities

1. Architecture, Patterns & Delivery

Architect end-to-end Power Platform solutions--

from Dataverse schema to Power Automate flows, embedded Power BI, and custom plugins

. Build and configure apps, flows, visuals, and APIs yourself; maintain a high personal output alongside architectural duties. Establish working patterns for custom connectors, PCF controls, plugin development, and DAX queries.

2. Engineering Ownership & Quality

Perform code reviews and certify production readiness for components built by the team. Investigate and resolve complex technical issues in live systems (timeouts, logic errors, performance drops). Document and share learnings from incidents and improvements across the team.

3. Mentorship & Technical Enablement

Pair-program and debug with engineers

on high-complexity tasks like webhook orchestration or plugin lifecycle management. Run focused workshops and write example implementations (e.g., reusable flow templates, plugin scaffolds, optimized DAX). Build and maintain internal knowledge bases: runbooks, architecture diagrams, API examples.

4. Innovation, Prototyping & Experimentation

Test new Power Platform features (AI Builder, Power Pages enhancements, Copilot extensions) and

build working prototypes

. Translate prototypes into team-ready handovers with documentation and implementation steps.

5. Documentation, Briefings & Collaboration

Author and maintain high-quality

technical documentation

: data models, environment setup, API guides, flow charts. Translate complex technical topics into briefings for non-technical stakeholders in finance, H&S, and operations. Collaborate with UK-based stakeholders and the Technical PM to ensure platform solutions match business needs.

6. Planning, Governance & CI/CD

Define and maintain CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps. Manage environments and deployment strategy in line with our ALM standards. Work with the Technical PM to scope and sequence work, balancing velocity with stability.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years in software development, with at least 2 years building

real-world Power Platform solutions

hands-on. Strong hands-on knowledge of

Power Apps (Canvas/Model), Dataverse, Power Automate, and Power BI

, including plugin development in C# and webhook/API patterns. Experience defining and maintaining DevOps/ALM pipelines for low-code platforms (GitHub/Azure DevOps). Ability to clearly document and communicate technical designs and trade-offs to peers and stakeholders.

Preferred Skills & Certifications

Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert or Developer Associate. Familiarity with Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and pipelines. Experience creating custom controls using React/TypeScript for PCF.

What We Offer

20 days annual leave plus South African public holidays. Fully remote role with flexible hours aligned to UK timezone. Annual development budget for certifications, tools, or conferences. A visible technical leadership role with the freedom to influence how things get built and deployed.
