Postdoctoral Fellowship
Job Description
Stellenbosch University, in collaboration with the University of Sheffield and sponsored by The UK Royal Society, are tackling the housing crises in South Africa via a research project titled "Interlocking prefabricated 3D printed low-carbon concrete wall panels for low-income housing construction in South Africa". A 1-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available through this project at the Department of Civil Engineering, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop sustainable 3D printed materials and structural solutions specific to the low-income housing sector, and present the research findings at local and/or international symposia.
Requirements
- PhD in Civil/Structural Engineering obtained within the past 5 years
- Minimum 3 years' experience in the 3D concrete printing field
- Proven experience in developing, characterising and 3D printing sustainable construction materials, such as LC3, C&D waste, and geopolymers
- Proven experience in large scale experimental testing of structural elements in a laboratory or field environment
- Published as first author at least 1 international peer-reviewed journal and 1 international conference article

*Please note that postdoctoral fellows are not appointed as employees, and their fellowships are awarded tax-free. They are therefore not eligible for employee benefits. This 1-year fellowship stipend is R400 000.
