Job Summary

Hire Resolve's client in Food Manufacturing industry is urgently seeking the expertise of an experienced Plant Manager to join their team in the Western Cape.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and implement the operational plans of the company to ensure the maximum capacity utilization of the plant, towards achieving the growth and profit objectives of the site as set by the company.
  • Directing, planning and co-coordinating production activities according to quality and quantity specifications within cost objectives.
  • Implementation of production plans including receiving sales forecasts; requisition for procurement of raw materials; manufacturing of products, ensuring optimum stock levels to service sales orders and achieving production plan targets.
Plant processes:
  • Process optimization: By initiating continuous factory process improvement with regards to the use of electricity, optimal plant and equipment usage, production yields and throughput, cost and downtime.
  • Plant Maintenance: Lead, assist and mentor maintenance team on site. Actively engage and provide necessary support to ensure optimal planning, procurement of technical materials, and execution of tasks to ensure efficient plant availability.
  • Actively being involved with maintenance team to ensure co-ordination between maintenance and projects work planning, to ensure efficient outcomes regarding both disciplines.
Plant projects:
  • Facilitate and ensure that plant project management processes are in place to achieve the required performance objectives in conjunction with Project Management division.
  • Ensure that projects are completed within scope, time & cost.
  • Manage and co-ordinate installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment. In conjunction with Project Management division.
  • Ensure effective contractor management in compliance with OHS Act and site safety requirements.
  • Perform acceptance testing of equipment in conjunction with Project Management.
  • Drive an effective hand-over of projects through a structured project closure review.
  • Develop and drive effective KPI's and reporting requirements.
  • Facilitate and ensure that all Capital Plant purchases have the appropriate asset management elements and maintenance schedule implemented to achieve effective maintenance standards.
Quality Control:
  • Setting quality control standards and systems to ensure quality control is maintained.
  • Monitoring product specification standards throughout production process.
  • Develop and implement SOP 's for all processes in production ensuring that high quality standards are met.
Security and Safety:
  • Ensure that the relevant Planner for critical activities are introduced and files with actions to take are up to date, i.e., training, safety checks, fire hazard equipment ect.
  • Apply effective security measures, paper trail controls are in place ensuring traceability throughout production processes.
  • Ensuring that health and safety guidelines in overall operations are followed.
  • Work closely together with the relevant Health and Safety central support to ensure relevant processes/procedures are in place (compliance)
  • Participate in safety forums for example safety meetings and safety talks
  • Follow-up on any activities assigned through safety meetings / committees / representatives / management
  • Report all safety incidents to the relevant people
  • Attend safety education and refresher programmes
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures
  • Distribute safety information as and when required
  • Wear protective clothing (where applicable) at all times
Employee management and development
  • Ensure overall compliance to relevant procedures and policies.
  • Ensure that all team members have clearly defined job profiles
  • Regular goal review completed to assess achievement of results
  • Support, coaching and mentoring is continuously provided to ensure that objectives are met
  • Ensure that development plans are in place for each employee
  • Appropriate allocation of resources to meet operational demands
  • Ensure that events/activities taking place in the team are effectively communicated within team
  • Ensure adequate succession planning in order to meet ongoing and anticipated business requirements
Requirements
  • B degree/Technical tertiary qualification essential - Degree recommended
  • 3-5 years relevant, hands-on mechanical engineering experience, coupled with sound management experience.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in project management
  • Previous experience within a similar setup/environment recommended
