Job Description

Overall Responsibility:

Manage all daily operations of the plant including processing, manufacturing and on-site warehousing. Ensure policies and procedures are followed to meet company objectives through the attainment of Plant KPI's. The plant must be continually improved by championing the Manufacturing Excellence Program.

Focus Area 1





Strategic Management


Participate in the development and implementation of an agreed technical plan that supports the overall business strategy, to create focus at the Brewery level To have in place a short- & medium-term Manufacturing excellence plan with defined performance measures To develop a cohesive Operational plan and budget for all sections of the Brewery



Focus Area 2





Manufacturing, on-site Warehousing and Technical management


Recommending economically feasible upgrading, replacement and/or installation of equipment. Ensure that production output fully satisfies sales demand by optimising all manufacturing resources, warehousing and implementing tactical and strategic imperatives set out in the Company's annual and long-term plans. Develop & implement raw material requirement plans Uncompromising Quality standards Implement & maintain company manufacturing systems, policies and procedures The development and implementation of equipment maintenance policies, procedures and plans as per set out by the Manufacturing excellence program Ensure optimum warehouse operation



Focus Area 3





Improve Manufacturing & Warehouse performance and reduce real costs over time


The setting of operational standards, comparative benchmarking and the implementation of Manufacturing excellence Manage and control variable and fixed costs, as well as capital expenditure, within budget levels through sound planning & implementation of management routines and internal checks to facilitate ongoing monitoring, review and corrective action where required To support the achievement of a continuously improving profit performance through exceptional product and package quality, and an increasingly cost-effective manufacturing unit To identify profit making, cost saving opportunities, to focus attention and initiate action to realise such opportunities The implementation and maintenance of systems, procedures and methods to ensure that prescribed product and package quality specifications standards are achieved and maintained.

Human resources and people development


To maintain an environment within the brewery that fosters equal and fair employment practices To communicate effectively with employees at all levels The development and maintenance of an up-to-date succession and development plan for staff with upward mobility to ensure continuity within manufacturing To build and enhance skill and competency levels within To maintain and reinforce performance management systems for plant staff

Code of conduct and corporate governance


To actively support, promote and uphold the SHP Code of Conduct To increase commitment from all internal and external stakeholders and be consistent in honouring legal and moral obligations.



Focus Area 6



Maintain a safety, healthy and risk-free environment


Safe working conditions Ensure risk management systems are in place and in compliance with all legal requirements and government regulations To implement and maintain policies, systems, procedures and internal checks to facilitate the identification, evaluation, and management of operating and financial risks inherent to the brewery To ensure compliance of all applicable product, labour, manufacturing and safety legislation as well as any other applicable statutory requirements



Requirements of the Role




Bachelor's degree in science, Brewing, Engineering or related field Minimum of 5 years Brewery Management experience at a Senior Level, with a good performance track record. Previous WCM/Manufacturing exposure and management Problem solving accreditation

Evidence of excellent engagement, coaching and consulting skills Strong bias for action (execution) and experiential learning Ability to interact and work across functions, authority levels and geographies Ability to influence and lead by example in developing and embedding new ways of working Strong analytical and problem-solving capability Ability to prioritise and maintain focus for leveraged delivery Excellent verbal and written communication skills
