Job Description

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has an exciting opportunity in our department. We are looking for a talented individual with relevant skills and experience for an Plant Engineer role, which is based in Wadeville. The successful candidates will report directly to the Manufacturing Manager.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key Outcomes

  • Lead daily engineering operations across site and utilities.
  • Ensure plant equipment operates reliably with minimal downtime to enable optimised production support.
  • Manage preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Ensure improved asset reliability, reduced reactive maintenance and extended equipment life.
  • Drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure reduction in recurring equipment issues and increased operational efficiency.
  • Oversee utility systems (steam, compressed air, HVAC, water and power etc).
  • Ensure stable and efficient utility service delivery to production lines.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards.
  • Zero incidents, audit readiness and regulator adherence.
  • Support in capital project planning and execution.
  • Support timely, cost-effective delivery of projects aligned with plant requirements.
  • Monitor the plant's engineering budget and control costs.
  • Ensure cost-effective maintenance and project execution within approved budgets
  • Maintain up-to date technical documentation and asset registers
  • Ensure accurate records supporting traceability and decision-making
  • Ensure adherence to relevant Coca-Cola Operating Requirements (KORE) procedures, promoting a culture of safety and efficiency while strengthening overall operational consistency.

  • Maintenance Strategy Execution: Ability to implement preventive and predictive maintenance frameworks and monitor effectiveness.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve mechanical, electrical, and utility-related issues.
  • Project Management: Ability to scope, plan, and execute small- to medium-scale engineering projects with cross-functional coordination.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Strong understanding of safety, environmental, food-grade standards, and engineering codes of practice.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Skilled in using maintenance KPIs and CMMS systems to drive improvements.

  • Equipment Uptime / OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
  • Planned vs. Unplanned Maintenance Ratio
  • Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) / Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
  • Maintenance Cost per Unit Produced
  • Utility Consumption per Unit Output (Energy, Water, Compressed Air)
  • Safety Incidents / Near Misses
  • Engineering Work Order Completion Rate
  • Compliance Audit Scores
Skills, Experience & Education
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechatronic Engineering
  • GCC (Factories)
  • Certification in Maintenance Management (e.g., CMRP) or Project Management (e.g., PMP) is an advantage
Experience
  • Minimum 6-8 years of relevant experience in an engineering or maintenance role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Beverage, food, or FMCG industry experience preferred.
  • Previous experience as the designated GMR1 (1) is advantageous
  • ERP experience (engineering packages an added advantage).
Skills
  • Knowledge of compressed air systems (LP & HP) Boilers, water treatment, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Ammonia Refrigeration systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical control panels, and utility equipment
  • Knowledge of Engineering Standards and other SABS standards (e.g. SANS 10142, SABS 400 Building Regulation, ASME code etc).
  • Understanding of GMP, HACCP, ISO standards, and plant hygiene standards.
  • Good understanding of OSH Act and Regulations.
  • Skilled in interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
  • Proficient in CMMS.
