Established in 1973 with the primary function of producing parent seed and seed maize for Africa's largest seed supplier, Pidelta (Pty) Ltd has grown into an extensive agricultural concern with farming enterprises across South Africa.
The following position has become available for a Farming Intern, based in Greytown (KZN). The purpose of this role is assisting the senior manager in day-to-day management of all farming operations on the business unit.
RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Attention to detail:

  • Infrastructure maintenance.
  • Farm and Equipment appearance, tidiness and presentation, company image.
  • Environmental awareness, invader species, protection of wildlife, soil erosion, safe and responsible handling of chemicals.
  • Ensuring compliance with government regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Keeping an up-to-date knowledge of pests and diseases.
2. Accountability:
  • Management of performance and wellbeing of FTCs.
  • Protection and maintenance of company assets.
  • Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.
  • Organizing maintenance/repair of farm property, equipment, and machinery.
3. Communication:
  • Clear and consistent communication with staff.
  • Clear and consistent communication with management.
  • Clear and consistent communication with suppliers and customers.
  • Broader community involvement.
  • Displaying willingness and engaging positively in a team environment.
4. Optimizing inputs and outputs:
  • Measurement of inputs and outputs.
  • Monitoring the outcomes and effectiveness of the deployed resources.
  • Ensuring high quality of outputs.
  • Timeliness, of various processes during the season.
  • Careful management and control of input resources.
  • Making sure that work is done safely and in time to meet targets and orders.
  • Responding to emergencies and solving problems effectively.
5. Equipment Maintenance:
  • Plan and implement preventative maintenance programs for equipment to ensure optimal operations.
  • Ensure that any breakdown is fixed immediately to minimize down time.
6. Direct Staff Supervision:
  • Measuring and monitoring all task related work on the business unit.
Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education:
Min: Matric and Diploma in Agriculture.
Ideal: Bachelors Qualification in Agriculture.
2. Legal Requirements:
Min: Valid Drivers License.
3. Training:
Min: On the job training, Basic Computer Skills.
Ideal: Occupational Health & Safety.
Hazard & Safety Requirements.
4. Experience:
Career path one should ideally follow before reaching the present position:
  • Experience 1 Year industry experience.
  • Candidate must be fluent in Zulu.
