Position: Phlebotomy Supervisor
Location: Durban
Job Purpose
Collects blood and other specimens for clinical analysis, evaluation, and/ or diagnostic purposes. Responsible for staff management of Phlebotomists for the specific area.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Enrolled Nurse/Phlebotomy Technician
Registered with HPSCA/SANC
3-5 relevant experience
Anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to medical pathology
Laboratory information systems
Medical ethical guidelines in the medical pathology fields
Organisational policy procedures
Phlebotomy procedures
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Phlebotomy
Performs all phlebotomy and associated procedures
Stand as relief Phlebotomist when staff are off duty.
Customer Relationship Management
Reports incidents, logs customer complaints and problem solution, reads documents and actions tasks on the laboratory information management system in compliance with relevant organisational policy.
Liaises with customers in order to resolve service-related issues, address non- conformances, maintain a positive image of the organisation and promote the services of JDJ Diagnostics.
Develop, manage and retain staff
Train and mentor staff to ensure they have the required skills and are able to achieve their performance objectives.
Plans and performance manage the activities of own staff to ensure they achieve team and individual objectives. This includes scheduling of shift rosters, managing overtime, discipline, recruitment and monitoring adherence to company policies
Oversees the provision of pre-and post- HIV/ Aids counselling for patients at designated sites in accordance with relevant protocols.

Management Reporting
Participate in regular meetings with Supervisors and/or Management to report on operational matters.
Ensures that shift handover routines take place in accordance with relevant work instructions.
Prepares and presents regular reports on operational matters including staff overtime, leave approved, stock orders verified, non-conformances and handling of customer complaints in accordance with relevant protocols and reporting templates.
Stock Control
Ensures equipment maintenance, asset management and procurement of goods to promote the most effective utilisation of resources, optimisation of stock levels and reduction of costs at all times.
QA/Health and Safety
Manages the correct application of quality assurance and health and safety processes and procedures on-site to ensure corrective actions are taken as required.
Supervises and ensures implementation and compliance to relevant protocols, working instructions, standard operating procedures and operational standards, with regard to all phlebotomy processes and practices for the relevant site in support of the achievement of organisational strategy and objectives.
Performs assigned tasks in preparation for annual internal and external quality control audits in accordance with agreed plans and timeframes.
Ensures that logging and resolution of customer complaints as well as non-conformances are recorded at the site.
