Job Summary
A Payroll Specialist is responsible for executing and managing the payroll cycle accurately and on time for employees, ensuring statutory compliance, maintaining payroll records, and providing support on payroll-related queries. You'll work closely with HR, Finance, and external service providers to ensure seamless payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Execution
Manage and process the fullend-to-end payroll cycle(monthly/weekly/bi-weekly asrequired), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Validate and process all payroll inputs: new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, overtime, allowances, and deductions.
Reconcile payroll data before and after runs, including third-party deductions (e.g., UIF, PAYE, pension).
Compliance & Reporting
Ensure compliance withSouth African payroll legislation, taxrequirementsandlabourlaws.
Prepare andsubmitstatutory returns (e.g., SARS filing, UIF, SDL) asrequired.
Maintainaccuratepayroll records and support audit readiness.
Employee & Stakeholder Support
Respond promptly toemployee payroll queriesand resolve discrepancies.
Liaise with HR and Finance on payroll data, employee changes, and reporting.
System & Process Management
Maintain and update payroll systems (e.g., VIP, Sage 300 People,Payspace,Remchannel).
Recommend improvements to payroll processes and support system enhancements.
Education
Diploma/degree inHuman Resources, Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience
Typically3-5+ years of payroll processing experience(end-to-end payroll).
Technical Skills
Strong understanding ofSouth African payroll legislation and tax compliance.
Proficiency in payroll software(e.g., Sage, VIP,Payspace) andMS Office (especially Excel).
