Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and experience in all aspects of
pastry, baking, and dessert preparation
.
Assist in managing the daily operations of the pastry section to ensure smooth and efficient service.
Prepare, bake, and present high-quality desserts, pastries, and baked goods according to restaurant standards.
Follow instructions and recommendations from senior chefs and supervisors to complete daily operational tasks.
Coordinate daily tasks with the Senior Pastry Chef or Head Chef to ensure consistency and quality.
Estimate daily production needs and maintain quality control of raw and finished products.
Ensure all pastry items are produced, prepared, and presented to the highest standard at all times.
Maintain high levels of guest satisfaction, food quality, and cost control.
Adhere to all standard operating procedures regarding food preparation, storage, and sanitation.
Maintain a full understanding of all pastry recipes, production methods, and presentation standards.
Follow correct preservation and storage standards to ensure freshness and food safety.
Operate and maintain pastry equipment responsibly; promptly report any malfunctions.
Promote effective communication and teamwork to create a positive working environment.
Take personal responsibility for hygiene, safety, and the correct handling of ingredients and utensils.
Work efficiently to meet deadlines and assist team members in achieving kitchen goals.
Regularly check expiry dates and proper storage of all pastry items and ingredients.
Consult daily with the Senior Pastry Chef regarding menu changes, special functions, or last-minute requirements.
Train and mentor junior pastry staff to ensure motivation, creativity, and high performance.
Maintain excellent personal hygiene and cleanliness, setting a professional example for others.
Provide daily feedback and report any operational or quality issues to management.
Ensure all pastry items meet the restaurant's quality and presentation standards.
Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.
Requirements:
Experience:
Minimum
2-3 years in a similar Pastry CDP role
within an upmarket or fine-dining environment.
Location:
Must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate to
Cape Town, Western Cape
before starting work.
Language:
Fluent in
English
(required).
Shift Availability:
Must be available for
day shifts, night shifts, and double shifts
as required.
