Purpose of the Job



The Pastry Chef is responsible for crafting high-quality desserts and confectionery, as well as developing innovative recipes for the pastry section of Cookie & Co's kitchen. This role requires a strong passion for baking and a creative approach to producing exceptional culinary creations that surpass customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities



Operating and managing the pastry section of the kitchen, liaising with the Head and Sous Chefs to ensure a productive and collaborative working environment. Preparing ingredients and handling baking and other kitchen equipment. Creating pastries, baked goods, and confections by following established recipes. Developing new recipes to innovate and enhance the pastry offering. Ensuring that each pastry and/or dish prepared maintains consistent quality and aligns with the standards of the brand. Decorating pastries and desserts to ensure attractive and tasteful presentation. Meeting with customers to discuss and plan bespoke desserts and pastries for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, and high tea. Any proposals must be discussed with the Head or Sous Chef prior to commencing preparations. Monitoring stock levels of baking ingredients. Advising the Head or Sous Chef when ordering new supplies, ingredients, and equipment for the pastry section, as needed and within budget. Ensuring the pastry section adheres to all health and safety regulations. Supervising and training staff members when required. Performing additional duties as needed or as required within Cookie & Co's kitchen.

Minimum Requirements



Matric / High School Diploma 2 or more years' experience working within the food industry as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or relevant role. Qualification from a certified culinary school which includes a baking module. Food safety training is advantageous.

Skills Required



Creative ability with artistic skill in decorating cakes and other desserts. Baking high quality treats should be matched by your creativity to develop new amazing tastes and recipes. Keen attention to detail. In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation, and nutrition. Time management skills to deliver orders on schedule and avoiding wasting food.
