The Strangers Club is a cafe and retail space housed in an heritage farmstead in Greenpoint.
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to support the financial operations of our busy, growing restaurant. This is a part-time position (3 days per week) with a mix of onsite and remote working. You'll be responsible for managing key accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, overseeing smooth day-to-day finance and keeping a close eye on stock management, as well as carrying out general administrative tasks and HR-related processes.
You will report directly to the Fractional CFO and the Founder.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate bookkeeping and financial records using
Xero
(bill uploads and supplier payment processing);
Perform
supplier reconciliations
and manage accounts payable;
Prepare and submit
VAT filings
in a timely and accurate manner;
Carry out
monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations
;
Process
monthly payroll
, including
tips allocation and reporting
;
Load and manage
supplier and payroll payments
via online banking;
Review stock variances on
MarketMan
and oversee stock counts;
Work closely with management to provide financial insights and ensure compliance with relevant regulations;
Use
Google Workspace
(Sheets, Docs, Drive, etc.) to collaborate and report;
Track staff leave requests;
Prepare and submit monthly

Carry out general administrative tasks, including document management and filing.
Execute HR-related processes such as maintaining employee records, and coordinating leave and payroll queries.
Requirements
A bachelor of commerce degree in financial accounting or management accounting
Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within hospitality or retail;
Proficient in
Xero
accounting software;
Comfortable working in
Google Workspace
;
Strong understanding of South African VAT, payroll processes, and basic financial controls;
Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines;
Able to work independently and communicate effectively with the wider team.
Nice to Have
Previous experience working in a restaurant or hospitality environment;
Familiarity with tip management and service charge allocation.
Experience working on Market Man.
