Introduction
We are looking to recruit a Paralegal to work within the Group Legal department of Clicks Group Services. The role will be based at Clicks Head Office in Cape Town and will report to the Head of Legal & Company Secretary.
Job description

JOB PURPOSE:
To attend to legal work in the department which is routine, low risk and/or of low monetary value and provide administrative support to the legal department.

JOB OBJECTIVES:

  • Support the legal department and the business in the implementation and use of the contract management and contract drafting software used by the Group;
  • Provide administrative support to the legal department, including organising team events; preparing agendas for team meetings; securing support from group services such as travel agents, facilities or IT; ordering stationery; on-boarding vendors; assisting in on-boarding and preparing facilities for new employees in the department; managing the submission of documents by the department to internal and external audit, and as required; and preparing reports;
  • Attend to customer complaints and medical malpractice claims where the CRT has forwarded these to the legal department, in collaboration with the lawyers in the department and functionaries in the business;
  • Attend to legal work that is low risk and has low monetary value, such as preparing addendums to contracts, termination letters, reviewing credit applications or letters of demand;
  • Support litigious matters involving Group companies or employees, in conjunction with lawyers in the department;
  • Assist in the scrutiny and payment of invoices from law firms, including managing the process from submission of invoices to payment; and
  • Assist in the management of external vendors who provide document storage services to the group.

Minimum requirements

EDUCATION
  • Matric (essential)
  • Qualified paralegal (essential)
  • Law degree (desirable)
  • Commissioner of oaths (desirable)


JOB-RELATED KNOWLEDGE
  • Basic legal knowledge xe2x80x93 to the level of a paralegal
  • Competent in MS Office
  • Expert legal knowledge
  • Knowledge of the contract management and contract drafting software used by the Group
  • Competent in SAP


JOB EXPERIENCE
  • Legal and/or administrative work in an in-house legal team would be a distinct advantage.
  • Administrative work in a corporate would be useful.


JOB-RELATED SKILLS
  • Ability to learn to operate the contract management and contract drafting software used by the Group.
  • Strong language skills, in particular the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to schedule meetings across multiple diaries, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • MS Office
  • Ability to prepare reports on legal spend, customer complaints (including outcomes and total expenditure) and other departmental affairs (Desirable)
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise work (Desirable)
