A successful international agribusiness in speciality fruit production throughout South Africa and globally, is recruiting a

Packhouse Manager

for their soft fruit farm in the Western Cape.

Purpose of the position:

Manage the process of packing harvested fruit and dispatching the fruit to meet with customer specifications on time, in full and at the highest possible quality.

Key accountabilities:

Packhouse Operations:

Develop and implement, in collaboration with growers, harvesting and sales teams, a planning process for the packhouse to meet the successful packing of forecasted volumes, plan and implement packhouse operations daily to meet customer order outcomes, within set quality and speed parameters. Liaise with the packhouse/harvest administrator and action all order requirements within the packhouse lines.

Quality Management & Food Safety:

Monitor quality and food safety standards, processes and controls to ensure consistent product quality is achieved. Build relationships with customers in terms of quality, food safety and order expectations.

Pulp Operations:

Manage the efficiency of pulp operations. Plan, action, and monitor the management and labour team to carry out establishment tasks within set deadlines and within budget. Corrective action for deviations through the disciplinary code.

Packaging:

Procurement of all packaging material and equipment within set budgets, deadlines and in line with production requirements. Maintain and improve overall packaging operations to ensure efficiency and the ability to meet targets.

Human Resources:

Collaboration with management to evaluate and establish labour plans to meet operational needs, ensure attendance meets with outcome station needs, monitor outcomes daily and adjust to meet packhouse operational needs, supportive action to ensure outcomes are met.

Health and Safety:

Monitor and enforce all health and safety measures according to legislation and the company safety plan. Corrective action of deviations through disciplinary code, evaluation and collaboration with senior management for the procurement of all safety equipment to ensure hazards are minimised.

Candidate requirements:

The successful candidate must have between 3-5 years packhouse management experience with soft fruit, to oversee a packhouse with +- 200 seasonal staff. Experience with quality assurance, audits and compliance. Candidate must have the capability to oversee a huge packhouse; this is a very demanding position. Starting date: As soon as possible. Remuneration: in line with industry norm.
