Job Description


Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has an exciting opportunity in our Manuafacturing department. We are looking for a talented individual with relevant skills and experience for a Packaging Engineer role, which is based in Midrand, Gauteng. The successful candidate will report directly to the Production Engineer.

Key Purpose
To provide specialised technical services to the Manufacturing plant in order to achieve and maintain the engineering integrity of the packaging plant. This is achieved by managing the packaging equipment asset care and productivity so as to produce quality products and remain cost effective.
Key Duties & Responsibilities

Drive the deployment of the CCBSA Asset Management Strategy in the Plant

  • To provide technical leadership and support to plant Packaging Engineering teams in terms of asset management strategy, framework and technology to enable the implementation of business strategies to leverage equipment, productivity, reliability and maintainability, thereby enabling high plant availability and utilisation at lowest cost.
  • Support the disciplined execution of standard work practices at plant level.
  • Maintain compliance to the Manufacturing Way; Asset Care Philosophy and related Strategies.
  • Lead and continuously improve the Asset Care SCMAT work practice for the plant.
Asset Care Processes
  • Deliver improved machine performance through effective preventative maintenance.
  • Engage with Asset Owners and OEMxe2x80x99s to support audits and improvement processes of plant equipment to maintain and restore machines to basic condition.
  • Provide expert advice in the development of the asset care plan for the packaging plant.
  • Maintain key asset care reliability KPIs and develop action plans to close gaps where the KPIxe2x80x99s are not met.
  • Implement the asset care plan for the Packaging plant, ensuring the Packaging Engineering team have the required competencies to execute the plan.
  • Develop asset care competencies are developed in the Packaging Engineering team. Where training needs have been identified, ensure these are addressed.
  • Incorporate asset care goals are into Packaging Engineering team and individual goals
  • Implement the Predictive Maintenance Strategy.
  • Implement the Condition Monitoring program.
  • Lead the OEM SPP (Supplier Partnering Programme) for the plant and monitor Service Agreements
Plant Reliability and Optimisation

People Management and Safety
  • Lead the Packaging Engineering team in a manner that engenders ownership, empowerment and team interaction.
  • Lead the development of Packaging Engineering team goals and ensure these are communicated and understood by team members.
  • Entrench a high-performance culture by conducting regular Packaging Engineering team goal review sessions, one-on-onexe2x80x99s and performance reviews.
  • Conduct training need analysis and develop training plans for team members.
  • Develop appropriate competencies in the team and ensure that multi-skilling occurs within the Packaging and broader engineering team.
  • Manage contracted-out maintenance services by ensuring that the service supplied is in strict accordance with supply scheme contract and that of service and product reliability, quality, cost and the service providers own employee behaviour is acceptable while on site.
Skills, Experience & Education

Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc (Mechanical/Electrical) or 4-year relevant technical qualification.
  • Relevant financial qualification would be an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years technical experience in maintenance and leadership in an FMCG environment.
  • Broad based engineering and packaging knowledge as applicable in CCBA.
  • Ability to develop and control budgets.
  • Leadership ability (ability to lead planners, controllers and a full engineering team).
  • Deep understanding of Packaging Operations, processes and systems.
  • Deep understanding of Asset Management, Autonomous Maintenance and OEM Partnering.
  • Understanding of Project Management.
  • Understanding of CCBA Asset Management standards and guidelines, including the Manufacturing Way.
  • A good understanding of Safety, Health and Environment which includes Sustainable Development.
  • Ability to implement appropriate HR processes to manage, motivate and develop
  • Ability to facilitate problem solving in a team forum.
  • High level of resilience and ability to operate in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to manage complex projects of significant number.
  • A good understanding of CCBA business processes which include financial management, performance management, talent management and IR.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices within the industry.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the FMCG industry.
