To perform various services and process activities, create and maintain scalable, high performance database architectures, which includes data modelling, database design, and the implementation of robust data storage solutions that ensure data integrity and availability. Drive the impementation and maintenance of databases that store and process large volumes of data efficiently.

  • Drive the execution for building, testing, automating and maintaining the data architecture of the Standard Bank organisation to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance as it relates to change management in database solution projects to ensure sustainable change and adoption of new practices and behaviours.
  • Drive the execution of database architecture to align database systems with the organisation's business objectives and growth plans. Implement best practices and standards for database design, implementation, and maintenance to continuously enhance and mature the database capability within the Standard Bank Group.
  • Provide subject matter expertise during the implementation and deployment of complex database systems to ensure adherence to architectural principles and industry best practices. Act as a key member of the Infrastructure function to collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate databases with other systems and applications.
  • Perform analysis and robust observability and performance tuning processes to proactively identify performance bottlenecks and scalability issues. Implement advanced techniques for database performance analysis and optimisation. Monitor and report any risks to the Senior Database Engineer for action and resolution.
Qualifications
  • Degree: Information Technology (Min)
Additional Information
Experience Required: Software Engineering
5-7 years: Proven ability to work effectively as both a team leader and as a member of a small team of technical staff working in an agile development environment. Track record in capability and competency building and coaching of staff is required. Minimum 1-2 years' experience as a manager running a portfolio of 10+ technical experts
8-10 years: Broad experience in translating business and functional requirements into technical specifications and developing the programming code to create the solutions.
