Job Description


Role purpose

Responsible for overseeing and leading the work of a cluster(s) of the team, such as planning and maintaining procedures, and policies that enable and encourage the optimum performance of the people and other resources within the team. Liaison with internal teams, external asset managers, clients, counterparties, CSDPxe2x80x99s, JSE and Strate will be required in order to carry out these functions.

Specific Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordination and Supervision - Coordinate, manage and monitor the workings of the cluster. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules and supervise staff.
  • Resources xe2x80x93 Work with Human Resources in order to recruit and place required staff. Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary. Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
  • Communication - Facilitate coordination and communication between the various support functions. Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through team meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email and regular interpersonal communication.
  • Planning - Plan and implement systems that perform the work of the cluster and fulfill the mission and the goals of the team efficiently and effectively. Plan, evaluate, and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output.
  • Controls - Establish and maintain relevant controls and feedback systems to monitor the operation of the cluster.
  • Strategic Input - Review performance data that includes activity reports and spreadsheets, to monitor and measure departmental productivity, goal achievement, and overall effectiveness.
  • Reporting - Prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested, to track strategic goal accomplishment.
  • Risk - Contribute in analysis and implementation of process changes focusing on risk reduction and efficiency. Make business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Culture - Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with the overall organizationsxe2x80x99 and that emphasizes the identified mission, vision, guiding principles, and values of the organization.
Education and Experience
  • 5 - 7 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in the financial services industry, with at least 3-5 years at a management level.
  • Understanding of risk and techniques to manage risk within teams
  • Understanding of processes and controls and the knowledge of how to improve these.
  • Individual who can use initiative and take ownership of issues/problems.
  • Highly developed analytical, technical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Clear communicator (verbal & written)
  • Proven ability to be a team player as well as an individual contributor.
  • Have the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail, control and risk orientated
  • Ability to apply judgement and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to manage and train staff
  • High degree of professionalism, ethics and integrity
  • Knowledge of various systems ie. Accurate, Fundamentals, Banking, Hiport, Connex, Robotics UIPath, CTM, Interface and Finswitch will be an advantage.
  • Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in Commerce (Accounting preferred)
  • Diploma or course in SA Financial Market Instruments will be an advantage
