Job Description


Our client, a group of schools, is looking for an Operating Manager to join their team based in Richwood, Cape Town.

Job Summary
The Operating Manager (OM), is a high-level executive position (HQ based, but will be required to spend considerable time at our centers) within our organization. The OM typically reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the company.

Duties
The specific responsibilities and job description of an OM can vary from time to time, but generally include the following:

  • Operational Strategy: Develop and implement the company's operational strategies in alignment with the overall business objectives and goals.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage and allocate resources efficiently to achieve operational excellence, including budgeting, staffing, and technology investments.
  • Team Leadership: Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team, including department heads and managers across various functional areas such as maintenance, service delivery, human resources, and more.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for operational improvement and streamline business processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
  • Risk Management: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure the company's operations are resilient and compliant with regulations and industry standards.
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the performance of various departments and operations (scorecards & dashboards), and make data-driven decisions to improve results.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that our services meet quality standards and customer expectations by implementing quality control measures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supply Chain Management: Oversee the supply chain, logistics, and inventory management to optimize production and distribution processes.
  • Vendor and Partner Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and strategic partners to ensure the smooth flow of goods and services.
  • Technology Integration: Assess and implement technology solutions that enhance operational efficiency, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and automation tools.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about relevant laws and regulations affecting the industry and ensure the company's operations comply with them.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the CEO and other executives to develop and execute the company's overall strategic plan.
  • Crisis Management: Lead the company's response to crises or emergencies, such as natural disasters or economic downturns, to minimize disruption and protect the organization.
  • Communication: Foster open and effective communication within the organization, ensuring that all departments work cohesively toward common goals.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates and reports to the CEO and board of directors on the company's operational performance, achievements, and challenges.
  • Business Development: Identify opportunities for business growth and expansion, and develop plans to capitalize on them.
  • Customer Focus: Ensure that operations are customer-centric, aiming to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Sustainability: Implement sustainability initiatives and environmentally friendly practices as appropriate to the industry and organization.

Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric).
At least 5 years of experience in managing/overseeing multiple branches/centers.
Attention to detail and a natural leader.
Integrity, punctuality, and accountability are not negotiable.
