Onsite Junior Support Engineer

Job Description

Problem Solving and Support:

  • Respond to client inquiries and support requests promptly and professionally.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance on computer equipment.
Installation and Setup:
  • Install and configure computers, operating systems, and software.
  • Install network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless devices.
  • Provide support for setting up new workstations and reconfiguring existing workstations.
Network Management:
  • Monitor network performance and report any issues to senior staff.
  • Assist with the administration of network security and access controls.
  • Maintain network connectivity and troubleshoot network problems.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of support requests, solutions, and maintenance activities.
  • Provide regular reports on IT support activities and performance.
  • Keep inventory of IT equipment and software up to date.
Customer Service:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by delivering excellent service.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide support.
  • Handle complaints and issues professionally and promptly.
Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays if necessary.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for onsite support.
  • Ability to pass background checks and security clearances if required by the employer.
The position is in Johannesburg, Monday - Sunday working in a team with shift on a rotational basis.
Technical Skills:
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and software.
  • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
  • Basic network knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Proficiency in using and supporting common software applications (Microsoft Office, email clients).
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Client-focused attitude and the ability to handle challenging situations with patience and professionalism.
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
