ROLE PURPOSE
The Oncology Nurse will provide specialized care to patients undergoing cancer treatment across a busy practice with four branches. This role involves administering chemotherapy, monitoring patient progress, providing emotional support, and ensuring continuity of care across all locations. Flexibility to travel between branches is essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer chemotherapy and other oncology treatments as prescribed by oncologists
Monitor and assess patient reactions to treatments and adjust care plans accordingly
Provide patient education on treatment plans, side effects, and post-treatment care
Collaborate with oncologists and other healthcare professionals for integrated care
Manage and maintain accurate patient records and documentation
Coordinate follow-up appointments, lab work, and referrals as needed
Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and their families
Maintain strict adherence to infection control and safety protocols
Travel to other practice branches when required to provide support and continuity of care
Participate in regular team meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives
REQUIREMENTSQualifications
Registered Nurse (RN) with valid registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
Oncology Nursing qualification or Oncology experience is essential
Chemotherapy administration certification preferred
Experience
Minimum 3 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in oncology care
Experience working in a private practice or multi-site environment is advantageous
Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of cancer treatments, side effects, and patient care standards
Excellent clinical skills, including IV administration and patient monitoring
Empathetic, patient-centered approach with strong communication skills
Ability to manage emotionally sensitive situations with professionalism
Willingness and ability to travel between branches (valid driver's license required)
Good administrative and documentation skills
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal working hours with occasional extended hours during busy periods
Travel between branches as per scheduling needs (reimbursed or company transport provided)
