Ocean Import Client Services Controller

Job Description




A clearing and forwarding client in the South of Durban is on the lookout for a motivated Ocean Import Controller to join their team.

As an Ocean Import Client Services Controller, you will be at the forefront of planning and coordinating Ocean Import Forwarding operations to meet client requirements. Your responsibilities will extend to managing Ocean Import landside operations, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of cargo, and maintaining excellent client service throughout the process.

Requirements for this role;

  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification; Freight Forwarding Course or similar advantageous.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a clearing environment.
  • Proficient in CargoWise (CW) with prior experience.
  • Sound knowledge of Incoterms, Ocean Import tariffs, and clearance procedures.
  • Customer service-oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Basic numeracy and understanding of accounting processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptability to a constantly changing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide proactive client communication, addressing any delays promptly.
  • Plan and arrange shipping to meet client specifications.
  • Ensure timely delivery of cargo and take preventive actions to avoid additional costs.
  • Maintain a paperless working environment, ensuring accurate data entry and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams for seamless communication on shipments.
  • Track and trace shipments as required, providing updates to origin offices.
  • Negotiate rates when necessary to optimize freight movement.
  • Ensure timely receipt of Pre-Alerts and necessary documentation for customs clearance.
  • Process various tasks including RCG, examinations, inspections, and cargo dues.
  • Manage billing processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness within agreed timelines.
  • Provide regular status reports and updates as per client SOP.
  • Resolve queries professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and contribute to team goals.
  • Stay updated on industry policies and procedures.
