OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (PERMANENT POSITION)

SUMMARY

To work with the occupational therapists in the team to implement therapy plans that aim to restore and maintain a patient's ability to function independently on a daily basis. They need to support and assist the occupational therapy team in treating Akeso inpatients appropriate to their level of functioning with specific reference to low functioning patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. Helping clients with groups and activities outlined in a treatment plan developed in collaboration with an occupational therapist.

b. Monitoring an individual's activities to make sure they are performed correctly.

c. Conducting group therapy sessions as defined by their scope, when needed.

d. Screening of patients as needed.

e. Co-facilitating group therapy sessions with the occupational therapist

f. Assisting and supervising patients with self-reported questionnaires such as the Role Check list

g. Maintaining the Art Room as required.

h. Billing appropriately in consultation with an occupational therapist.

i. Attending ward rounds and providing feedback to the team regarding patients' progress and treatment.

j. Fulfilling administration duties for COPE as required for the smooth running of the units.

k. Working as a fully integrated member of the multi-disciplinary team including liaison with nurses, other relevant team members and consultations as needed.

l. Assisting with and covering duties of other COPE members as required, ensuring they remain within their scope of practice

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a basic qualification as an OTA or OTT and be registered with the HPCSA (they cannot be registered with BHF)
