We have an exciting opportunity for a Occupational Hygiene Technologist who will be involved in the planning of monitoring, in the measurement of environmental stress factors (e.g. air monitoring) the evaluation and control of exposures to ensure that Sishen mines remains compliant to health and hygiene legislation so as to provide for the well-being of employees and prevent occupational diseases.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.



As our Occupational Hygiene Technologist some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Produce ad hoc and mandatory, monthly or quarterly and annual Occupational hygiene reports
• Evaluation and identification of potential risks and OH deviations
• Provide recommendations on corrective actions, and monitor the implementation of corrective measures
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance to systems, guidelines and code of practice
• Monitoring and controlling chemical and physical hazards (e.g.: noise, thermal stress) using an appropriate sampling methodology, which complies with internationally accepted standards compatible best practice, must be selected and implemented when taking occupational hygiene measurements
• Facilitate 11.5 occupational hygiene investigations
• Monitoring and inspection of working areas
• Knowledge sharing through training of the workforce in identifying and addressing health and hygiene hazards
• Conduct Hygiene audits to ensure compliance to the IS0 45001 & other legal requirements

Qualifications

You will be required to have the following:

• Degree in Environmental & Health Sciences
• Registration with the Southern African Institute for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) as an Occupational Hygiene Technologist or a holder of an Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control issued by the Minerals Council of South Africa (MCSA)
• Code 8 Drivers License
