Job Summary

Main purpose of the job:

  • To render a Primary Health Care service at Primary Health Care facilities and in local communities outside of institutional settings to promote, preserve, and improve the health of the community
Location:
  • Tshwane - FF Ribeiro Clinic (Pretoria)
Key performance areas:
  • Rendering of functional clinical services as per PHC (Primary Health Care) comprehensive core package of PHC and approved service profile of the Health Division
  • Rendering of health-related information and health education service: identification of problems, giving of health information, performing health education and health promotion accordingly to resolve problems and deal with health-related inquiries
  • Giving appropriate nursing staff directives and prescriptions for activities, techniques, equipment, or supportive measures to be taken for patient care executed by auxiliary nursing categories
  • Exercising further direct supervision over these activities and ensuring proper execution thereof as per statutory requirements
  • Rendering of a client record service and institution-bound record service
  • Rendering general administrative services as related to proper health facility functioning in the absence of clerical/administrative staff for example patient admissions, etc., and in association with administrative staff
  • Displays budgetary awareness and provides cost-effective quality PHC services through cost-containment measures and appropriate use of supplies and equipment
  • Ensures the maintenance of proper security measures with respect to medical stock and equipment i.e., drugs (legal responsibility and personal accountability)
  • Fosters good public relations while interpreting the philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to patients and the public (patient advocacy role)
  • Demonstrates and maintains effective/courteous relationships with consumers and acts to resolve consumer problems/complaints to be beneficial to the consumer and the image of the employer, and the nursing profession
  • Maintains patient confidentiality as per statutory requirements
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Acts in liaison with medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care
Required minimum education and training:
  • A 4-year Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Nursing Science or equivalent
Required minimum work experience:
  • 5 years of management experience in PHC and HIV/TB program
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
  • Demonstrated leadership, management, and change management ability, including the ability to manage, coach, and motivate diverse team
  • Demonstrated a history of influencing positive change with external stakeholders and developing and maintaining relationships at all levels of host and partner organizations
  • Positive, energetic team leader with an ability to adapt to complex situations, manage stress, and deliver goals pro-actively
  • Organized with a thorough and accurate approach to work and attention to detail

Communications and relationships:
  • Maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels
  • Communicate effectively with all external stakeholders from the Department of Health (DoH), District and Municipality Health staff, community, and other partner organizations
