Job Description

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) enjoys national and international acclaim for its continuing contribution to democratic change in South Africa and for making quality education accessible to all South Africans and developing centres of excellence of national importance. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team. The post is positioned within the Media, Marketing and Communications Office and requires the successful candidate to operate across a range of publishing platforms and liaise with a multitude of stakeholders. The individual must, therefore, have a sound understanding of online, print and video publishing, with particular focus on enhancing the Standing and Profile of the University. The main purpose of this role is to bring capacity to the multimedia and specifically video content needs of the University.

The preferred candidate must be highly motivated, open to experimentation, learning and able to evolve their thinking in response to changing technology and stakeholder needs. Reporting to the Media, Marketing and Communications Manager and the Director: Institutional Advancement, the appointee’s duties will include, but not be limited to the administration and execution of the following tasks:

  • Create dynamic, visually compelling multimedia content for social media, web and print
  • Collaborate with Media, Marketing and Communications office staff on the script or storyboard for campaigns.
  • Coordinate necessary equipment for audio or video, and operate the equipment or train those who will be operating equipment
  • Coordinate the production of high-quality audio/video media in the field or studio, including managing film shoots to obtain new footage and stills
  • Liaise with freelance photographers/videographers to provide direction for shoots and serve as the point person for securing assets and uploading
  • Develop and maintain an archive of video and photo assets for use on multiple media platforms

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma in media and communications or an Equivalent Qualification
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience
