Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Mine Overseer to be placed in Zibulo, Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will report to the Project Manager. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.
Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

• Effectively supervise and lead underground crews to efficiently achieve production and quality targets to project scope
• Effective planning, organising, control and monitoring of section
• Safe achievement of production targets in line with contractual requirements
• Effective operational management in line with legal requirements
• Accurate, timely, relevant recording of activities, reporting and administration
• Effective risk management and compliance with MHSA, SHEQ, CA and client requirements
• Effective stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflows
• Effective self and team management in alignment with company values and leadership initiatives

Minimum requirements
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
• Mine Overseers' Certificate of Competency (Fiery Mines)
• Blasting Certificate (Fiery Mines), and Strata 3 Certificate
• Relevant Gas Testing and Flameproofing Certificates for Coal Mines (Essential)
• Valid EB Driver's Licence
• Valid First Aid certificate (If not available, obtain on on-boarding)
• MS Office Proficient (Word and Excel)
• Proficient at planning, leading, organising and controlling mine section
• Project management, mine planning, production and development skills
• Budgeting and financial management skills
• Results orientated and decisive, whilst following the rules
• Good English verbal and written communication skills

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience from obtaining a Blasting Certificate [Fiery Mines], including drill and blast experience
• At least 1 years of experience as a Mine Overseer in a coal mines and sound knowledge of explosives
• Experience in managing the work of subcontractors in a mining/underground environment
• Experience planning, leading, organising and controlling resources
• Experience in decline development (site specific)
• Experience working with unstable ground conditions and experience in long anchors, wetcrete and concrete work (site specific)
• Experience in stone work (site specific)
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of mining operations
• Sound knowledge of explosives
