field, to join our team in Cape Town, South Africa, operating on a hybrid working model, or remotely if necessary. Our team collaborates with international organisations, national governments, Private Entities and local communities to deliver cutting-edge solutions in climate mitigation and sustainable development to help the world's most vulnerable groups adapt to the impacts of climate change. This work includes:
designing innovative sustainable development or carbon and mitigation projects;
conducting technical evaluations on climate mitigation and carbon projects, including the development of mid-term and terminal reviews;
providing technical advisory services on climate mitigation and carbon projects; and
providing technical assistance and capacity building to governmental and non-governmental institutions, particularly regarding access to climate finance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Project management
Develop project plans and timeframes at the start of each project, effectively track deliverables against milestones and ensure project deliverables are achieved on time and are of high quality.
Display an understanding of financing options and innovative solutions and make recommendations to clients and stakeholders based on that knowledge.
Review work completed by junior staff, give feedback for improvement, provide mentorship to junior staff on projects, and ensure team members are staying on top of their deliverables.
Review and approve specific sections of project documents focusing on writing, conceptual and compositional elements.
Independently manage and coordinate assigned projects, while receiving strategic guidance and technical support from senior team members.
2. Leadership and team management
Respond promptly to day-to-day staff matters, including interpersonal, operational, or support-related needs, to maintain a positive and productive working environment.
Ensure all project staff members orientation and training in accordance with the project.
Ensure high levels of motivation, commitment, capacity, well-being and teamwork in your team.
Identify capacity gaps within project teams and draw on C4's external consultant base to ensure sufficient technical expertise is in place to meet project needs.
Play a leading role in client relations, which includes leading on calls, providing weekly updates and responding to any client requests professionally and timeously.
Play the main role in the development of high-quality written deliverables, including drafting, reviewing, and guiding the preparation of technical and narrative sections of project outputs -- such as feasibility studies, PDDs, stakeholder engagement reports and other client-facing documents.
Provide strategic direction on content development, ensure alignment with project objectives and standards and support junior team members through structured feedback and mentorship.
Take the lead in authoring complex or strategic sections, contributing to the intellectual rigour and credibility of C4's work.
3. Business Development
Engage with current clients to: a) identify opportunities to uplift existing projects by expanding their scope and increasing budgets; and b) explore connections with their partners and collaborators that could lead to new opportunities.
Support the Business Development Director in the development of business proposals and concept notes, including technical strategy, drafting, research and team coordination and resourcing.
Actively identify and lead the pursuit of new project opportunities by scanning procurement and funding portals, sharing promising opportunities with senior management or the Business Development Director, and taking ownership of their pursuit.
Manage full proposal development as capture lead and technical solution architect, including opportunity research, team identification, internal coordination and submission quality control.
4. Personal development and organisational culture
Identify own professional knowledge and skills development requirements and communicate these to the operations manager.
Keep abreast with current trends, legislation and policies that relate to the project, leadership, and the scope of work.
Pursue learning and training opportunities and actively participate in your own personal development and growth within the organisation.

REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
A Postgraduate degree (preferably at least master's OR PhD level) in Environmental Science, Climate Change, International Development or a related field.
2-7 years of relevant work experience.
Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, national stakeholders and team.
A strong track record in project management, the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
Experience in engaging with clients and other stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and understanding of project needs and objectives.
Work well under pressure, while mentoring and advising junior staff, while providing regular feedback to support team growth.
Outstanding English writing skills for clear and effective communication.
Proficiency in specialised analytical techniques (for Mitigation and Carbon, experience in Python, R, RothC, GIS and remote sensing) or (for Adaptation, experience with designing climate change adaptation projects for global funds such as the GCF, GEF, Adaptation Fund, and experience with Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) or Nature-based Solutions).
