Job Description


We are looking for an analytical and creative Merchandising Specialist with a bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in business administration, Marketing, Retail Management, or a related field as well as a minimum of 5 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in Merchandising Management or a similar role in the retail industry. You should have exceptional leadership abilities, financial management skills and a keen eye for trends.

You will be responsible for developing and managing the approved retail strategy, including shop front layout and merchandising. You will be required to project manage, and provide consistent brand, spatial and operational guidelines, in cooperation with retail stores and key stakeholders such as corporate affairs, provincial and area management. Source and develop new products and services to increase sales across the retail channel. Develop local marketing campaigns in cooperation with sales management to grow market share. You will also be responsible for planning, strategizing, and executing merchandising initiatives that enhance product visibility, optimize sales, and create an elevated experience for our customers.

You should have an eye for detail, very creative with exceptional communication and presentation skills coupled with strong negotiation and vendor management skills.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Analyse market trends, competitor activities, and customer insights to identify opportunities and gain competitive advantage.
  • Develop comprehensive merchandising strategies that align with the company's overall business goals and market trends.
  • Implement the approved merchandising strategies that align with the company's overall business goals and marketing strategy.
  • Determine product ranges, pricing, and promotional campaigns to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Develop in cooperation with the brand and advertising department marketing collateral for the business.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, procurement, and marketing, to curate an appealing product range that meets customer demands and company standards.
  • Conduct product range planning, considering seasonality, regional preferences, and inventory levels.
  • Monitor and analyse the performance of product categories and recommend the adjustment of ranges accordingly.
  • Determine the visual presentation of products to ensure that merchandising displays are visually attractive and in line with the brand's image.
  • Collaborate with management and sales force to ensure consistent and effective execution of visual merchandising guidelines.
  • Develop and implement in cooperation with management, inventory management strategies to maintain optimal stock levels while maximizing stock levels.
  • Monitor inventory turnover and analyse sales data to make data-driven decisions on inventory replenishment and markdowns.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely and efficient product deliveries.
  • Under the guidance of the General Manager: Funeral Service develop pricing strategies for products based on market research, competitor analysis, and margin goals.
  • Plan and recommend to general management promotional campaigns and markdown strategies to drive sales and clear excess inventory.
  • Monitor and analyse product sales performance, KPIs, and other relevant metrics to assess the effectiveness of merchandising strategies.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management, highlighting key insights and recommendations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to negotiate favourable terms and ensure a steady supply of quality products.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and product quality.
  • Manage the operational budget for marketing activities.
  • To plan and implement effective cost saving measures.
  • Analyse and control expenditure in line with the annual budget, monitor and report on variances and remedial action implemented.
  • Extract and analyse financial and business data to make informed and defendable decisions, projections and/or recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, merchandising principles, and market trends.
  • Proficient in using merchandising software and tools.
  • Creative mind-set with a strong eye for detail and aesthetics.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Knowledge of different retail channels (online, instore) is a plus.
  • Computer literacy xe2x80x93 high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office.
