Job Description

We are looking for a Mechanical Fitter who will primarily have to ensure maximum plant availability through effective preventative and planned maintenance, and will accordingly attend to all breakdowns, diagnose (using different problem-solving techniques), and conduct the necessary repairs and mechanical modifications, and sign off work done as meeting required standards.
Qualifications:

• Minimum Education: N3 - N6 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Trade Test: Qualified Mechanical Fitter (Red Seal).
• Experience: 3-5 years post-apprenticeship experience in a manufacturing, processing, or industrial environment.
• Additional Skills:

• Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Knowledge of pumps, motors, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.
• Basic welding and fabrication skills (advantageous).

Key Responsibilities:

• Assemble and fit mechanical components and systems according to technical drawings and specifications.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on machinery and equipment (e.g., pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, compressors, valves, etc.).
• Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out necessary repairs or replacements.
• Inspect, test, and align equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Work with precision tools and measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, verniers).
• Assist in equipment installations and commissioning of new machinery.
• Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and report breakdowns or potential failures.
• Collaborate with electricians, welders, and other maintenance personnel as required.
• Identify opportunities for mechanical improvements and cost savings.
• Min 3 years post-trade test experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Good mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fault-finding skills.
• Ability to prepare and read mechanical schematics.
• Ability to carry out basic welding, machining, and drilling.
• Working knowledge of lifting equipment, e.g, chain blocks, hydraulic jacks.
• Fully conversant with Environmental, Health, and Safety Standards
• Responsible for Technical Assets.
• Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office and maintenance software (SAP preferably).
