JOB DESCRIPTION: Graduate Mechanical Engineer - FMCG / Systems Design / Heavy Equipment Installation
Location: East Rand, Gauteng
Employment Type: Permanent - Entry Level / Graduate
Citizenship: South African candidates only

  • Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and academically strong Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team within the FMCG and heavy manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for a recent graduate who is passionate about electrical systems design, automation, and the installation/commissioning of heavy-duty manufacturing equipment.
The successful candidate will receive hands-on exposure to large-scale industrial systems, project engineering, electrical design principles, and plant optimisation within a fast-paced FMCG environment.
  • Minimum Requirements
Education
  • BSc Mechanical Engineering or
  • BEng Mechanical Engineering
  • Final-year academic average: 60% or higher
  • South African citizen - valid SA ID required
Experience
  • No formal work experience required (entry-level graduate role)
  • Vacation work, in-service training, or exposure to industrial/FMCG environments will be an advantage
  • Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering Support
  • Assist in the design, drafting, and modification of mechanical systems for FMCG production lines and heavy-duty equipment
  • Support senior engineers with load calculations and schematic drawings and calculations
  • Prepare and update drawings, diagrams, and technical documentation
Installation & Commissioning
  • Support installation teams during equipment setup and controls and analysis
  • Conduct inspections, quality checks, and troubleshooting under guidance
  • Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions on mechanical breakdowns
FMCG Plant Exposure
  • Gain experience in high-speed production environments, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in plant optimisation projects, energy efficiency studies, and maintenance planning
Project Engineering Assistance
  • Assist with project scheduling, cost tracking, documentation, and reporting
  • Ensure engineering tasks comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and engineering teams as required
  • Skills & Competencies
  • Strong theoretical understanding of engineering principles
  • Interest in systems design, and industrial plant environments
  • Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD Electrical / EPLAN beneficial)
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • High level of attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to work in a team
  • Additional Advantages (Non-essential)
  • Exposure to PLC programming, SCADA systems, Automation and Mechanical instrumentation, or industrial networks
  • Python and Java coding
  • Valid driver's licence
