role combines mechanical engineering and project coordination responsibilities, with a focus on developing, designing, constructing and commissioning chemical production facilities within the energetic materials environment.
General:
Develop, design, construct and commission chemical production facilities in the energetic materials environment.
Effectively manage and engage with internal and external stakeholders through the proposal and project phases.
Ensure project mechanical activities comply with relevant standards and guidelines.
Work independently while managing contributions across multiple projects simultaneously.
Assist senior staff with day-to-day activities.
Mechanical Engineering:
Develop required Mechanical Engineering documentation as required during Concept, Basic and Detailed Engineering phases of projects.
Compile VROOM and ROOM costing for chemical production facilities.
Provide mechanical design inputs into Technical Proposals for chemical/energetic materials production facilities that will form part of the Tender Package.
Develop plant layouts and inputs for civil and structural design in accordance with relevant technical guidelines.
Perform and check calculations, specify equipment and develop 3D mechanical models during design phase.
Participate in and contribute to design reviews and project hazard and risk studies.
Develop and compile mechanical datasheets, specifications and narratives to obtain quotations and to procure equipment in the energetic materials industry.
Review suppliers' designs, 3D models, drawings and documentation, perform vendor bid analysis and generate RFP (Request for Purchase) packages to facilitate purchase of equipment.
Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing of mechanical equipment to ensure they meet design specifications, functionality and performance requirements.
Provide inputs into commissioning and performance test run execution plans.
Coordinate mechanical engineering activities across all disciplines during design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
Manage sub-contractors to ensure compliance with project scope, cost and schedule requirements.
Facilitate communication and collaboration between project stakeholders, ensuring effective information flow and issue resolution.
Liaise with clients to align on technical requirements and scope.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
BEng/B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering qualification.
Eng Certificate would be advantageous.
At least 3 years' experience in mechanical design related to a plant and equipment environment (experience in explosives or ammunition environment is desirable).
Travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred industry experience: Energetic materials and EPCM.
Proficient in the use of a CAD package such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
Proven stakeholder management and communication skills, with an ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Good communication, planning and organising skills.
Ability to work precisely and methodically with minimum supervision.
Ability to work under pressure.
Analytical thinker with good reasoning skills.
