Employer: Nantes Estate (Farm)
Position: Mechanic Apprentice
Salary: R6,000 - R8,000 per month (depending on experience)
Working Hours: 07:00 - 17:00, Monday to Friday
Weekends: Saturdays and Sundays as required by management
Overtime: Paid, subject to prior approval by management

Job Purpose

The Mechanic Apprentice will assist the farm mechanic with daily mechanical and maintenance tasks. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in agricultural machinery maintenance, repairs, and general workshop operations while supporting broader farm operational needs as directed by management.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist the mechanic with servicing, maintenance, and repair of farm machinery and equipment
- Help with stripping, assembling, and cleaning of machinery and components
- Prepare tools and equipment required for mechanical tasks
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the workshop
- Assist with basic fault-finding under supervision
- Perform general farm duties when requested by management
- Follow all health, safety, and farm operating procedures

Requirements

- Basic mechanical knowledge or strong interest in mechanics
- Willingness to learn and take instruction
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labor
- Responsible, punctual, and reliable
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Previous mechanical or farm experience will be an advantage but is not essential

Reporting Structure

The Mechanic Apprentice will report directly to the Farm Mechanic and Farm Management.

General Conditions

This position is based on a working farm environment and may involve exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, dust, and heavy machinery. Flexibility may be required during peak farming periods.
