Eilandia Farms, near Robertson, is seeking to appoint a qualified and experienced Mechanic to join its established workshop and maintenance team, reporting to the Workshop Manager. The successful incumbent will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, availability, and longevity of the farm's fleet, agricultural equipment, and infrastructure, thereby supporting uninterrupted agricultural production.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Diagnose mechanical and basic auto-electrical faults on tractors, trucks, forklifts, spray pumps, and agricultural implements
Accurately identify repair and preventative maintenance requirements and implement proactive maintenance plans to minimise downtime
Communicate parts requirements clearly and timeously to ensure availability and avoid production disruptions
Perform routine services, repairs, and preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service schedules
Conduct basic auto-electrical repairs on vehicles and tractors to limit reliance on external service providers
Restore older tractors, including spray work, in a cost-effective manner that extends asset life
Build, repair, and maintain farm infrastructure such as gates and other basic structures, using available materials efficiently
Ensure all equipment is safe, reliable, and production-ready, with no repeated repairs for the same faults
Allocate daily tasks to workshop assistants and monitor quality of workmanship
Provide hands-on training, guidance, and support to workshop assistants to improve productivity and independence
Ensure effective utilisation of labour, tools, and materials
Maintain a safe, organised workshop environment and enforce compliance with safety standards and procedures
REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 (Matric)
Qualified Diesel or Motor Mechanic with Red Seal certification
Minimum 3 years' experience in servicing and repairing vehicles, tractors, and agricultural implements
Proficient in Afrikaans and English
Valid driver's licence (Code C1/10)
Welding skills (arc, CO? or MIG/TIG - advantageous)
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
Sound planning and organising skills
Basic numerical competence and computer skills (i.e. MS Office)
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams
Medically fit and able to work in confined spaces, heights and manage heavy loads
Willingness to work extended hours during peak and harvest periods
