1. POSITION DETAILS

Mechanical Engineer (Permanent)

2. Purpose of the job

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for managing all mechanical maintenance activities associated with defect and planned maintenance programmes, through a team of site based engineers, technicians and at times by external contract agencies.

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Development of the short and long term mechanical maintenance strategy for the plant and the development of a capable engineering, planning and mechanical maintenance team to support that strategy;
  • Day to day plant efficient management of mechanical maintenance activities, according to good utility practice, company rules and procedures, legal, contractual and other requirements;
  • Implement mechanical maintenance practices and strategy in accordance with OEM and
international standards with life cycle management for all major plant systems;
  • Responsible for the facility QA/QC, Root Cause Analysis Program;
  • Administers the Preventive / Predictive / Corrective mechanical Maintenance Programs through a computerized management program;
  • Establish the appropriate procedures and computerized mechanical maintenance management processes as applicable to a prudent management regime;
  • Determines and schedules the manpower, tools and spares requirements for each mechanical maintenance activity;
  • Review Maintenance strategy (PMs, PdMs) on yearly basis to be in line with plant demands and ensure the strategy covers the entire plant
  • Perform plant Life Cycle Cost to establish cost estimate for maintenance
  • Compile quality Control Documents for all critical equipment, component or plant
  • Keep track of Solar Field Maintenance activities, and support maintenance functions to achieve set OM related solar field parameters (cleanliness; availability and performance);
  • Efficient management of tools, spares and consumables inventory while controlling the risks to the business;
  • Assists in establishing the equipment master data and business processes;
  • Respects the O&M agreement with the Owner and other contractual obligations;
  • Ensure that the plant meets availability, reliability, efficiency, generation and cost targets, safely and within the environmental, legal and contractual requirements;
  • Adherence to Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards;
  • Organizes risk analysis for the mechanical maintenance tasks;
  • Coordinate all mechanical maintenance activities with finance and accounting, administration, HSE and operation departments;
  • Define, manage and monitor the mechanical maintenance budget in line with the overall company budget;
  • Maintaining high standards of management, ethics and leadership;
  • Establish and facilitate training programs for individual development and operational competence;
  • Implements lessons learned processes and other activities to achieve a learning organization;
  • Succession planning for key staff;
  • Takes a lead role in implementing performance management processes within the mechanical maintenance team;
  • Establish and implement vertical/horizontal communication within the mechanical maintenance team to ensure members are well informed and remain engaged with the business; xe2x80xa2 Assists the Owner Engineer team during construction of the facility;
  • Assists in warranty claim management;
  • Prepares specifications, plans and administers Third Party Contracts and other mechanical maintenance contracts;
  • Works closely with inspection and overhaul contractors and provides them with all the necessary support.

  • The Job Holder will work in a controlled hazardous environment.
Exposure to Risks:
  • Traffic risks, ergonomic risks.
  • Risks inherent to the job of the Assistant Plant Operator while performing inspections, site visits, operations, and maintenance activities, etc.
5. COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIP

The Job Holder will work and communicate with:

Internal:
  • Daily communication of the departmental issues with the Departmental Heads and other team members.
  • Daily co-ordination and cooperation with the other departments for routine and emergency activities.
  • Daily supervision and coordination of the mechanical activities.
External:
  • The Job Holder must communicate with contractors, as deemed necessary.

Computer:

Computer literate: must have a high degree of skill in Business Computing Applications such as Databases, Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and Enterprise Resource Planning applications (Maximo/SAP or equivalent)

8. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential Qualifications:
  • An accredited Mechanical Engineering BTech or Degree
  • Registration as Professional Engineer would be an advantage
  • Demonstrated competence at engineering level supported by relevant education and training
Experience:
  • At least 6-8 year experience in the maintenance of a large power plant, 3 of which should preferably be in the capacity of Mechanical Engineer
  • Leading and managing people
  • Use of safe systems of work
  • Use of computerized management system
  • Engineering concepts, Standards and principles
  • Interaction with purchasing, finance and accounting, maintenance, administration
  • Budget control and reporting
Remuneration:
  • The compensation will be market related
